Job Description

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a world leading organization committed to the treatment and reintegration of patients suffering from Obstetric Fistula and the training and deployment of qualified midwives to prevent Obstetric Fistula and other child birth injuries.

HFE is founded in 1974 by Drs Catherine and Reginald Hamlin has been caring for the women of Ethiopia for almost 60 years. As well as our main hospital in Addis Ababa we also have 5 regional hospitals, rehabilitation, and reintegration center and a midwifery college.

We also deploy midwives into rural health centers across the country and provide mentoring and other support services to these facilities.

The Hamlin College of Midwives would like to invite potential applicants for the following positions:

Job Summary/Basic Function

  • To take a leading position in curriculum development, fulfill the regulatory requirements and acquire a license to launch the program. The program director is also responsible for the implementation of curriculum and evaluates the program.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide leadership in developing academic vision and plan for the Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia(HFE) and the college
  • To serve as chief planning officer and coordinate unit members and administration to develop plans and evaluate periodically for development of Hamlin college of midwives
  • To supervise the overall activities of the academic staff and collaborate closely with academic Dean.
  • To work in close collaboration with academic Dean and other sectors to coordinate the deployment of postgraduate students.
  • To ensure compliance with government standards for national accreditation
  • To coordinate all instructional, research and other activities but nurturing conducive work atmosphere at the college
  • To ensure that effective teaching methodologies are deployed in the college in order to create quality innovative learning environment
  • To organize the MSc program under the direction of the academic Dean and
    regulatory bodies.
  • To prepare recurrent and capital budget for the MSc program.
  • To participate in staff recruitment and play a key role in identifying the right candidates
  • Carrying out assessment, monitoring and evaluation of examination work and providing an academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities.
  • To design, adjust and improve the curriculum when required by the accreditation body ,MOH or any audit or supervisory body
  • To prepare activity report and submit to HERQA every 6 months
  • To avail capacity building training for staff and contribute towards staff professional development
  • To be engaged in research, consultancy and development work as appropriate.
  • To teach and evaluate courses related to Midwifery
  • To maintain safety Security and wellbeing of students in coordination with administrator
  • To meet with academic Dean of the college on a weekly basis and provide progress report
  • To participate in national and internal committees appropriate to courses and meetings convened by management.
  • To maintain appropriate records and making available information as required by the academic commission of the college
  • Engaging in promotion including student recruitment
  • Provide advice to the college on equipment procurement.
  • To receive partners and provide them all the necessary information and also report as per the agreement made.
  • To perform all activities as instructed by academic Dean

    Job Requirements

  • Minimum Education: PhD in Midwifery /reproductive health

  • Minimum Experience: 5 years and above in program director position

  • Leadership skill
