  • Help a Child is a Christian international NGO specialized in community development with its headquarters in the Netherlands.

  • Help a Child been operating in South Sudan for more than 10 years. Founded in 1968, Help a Child’s mission is to improve the wellbeing of children living in poverty and crisis through supportive communities. Help a Child South Sudan in consortium with Dorcas Aid International (DAI) and Light for the World (LfW) has secured a three years funding from European Union (EU) for its project titled “Pride”.

  • The project aims to empower women in Wau and Gogrial West Counties, especially around Wau and Kuajok, to contribute to the development of inclusive and prosperous communities.

  • In the consortium, Help a Child will focus on creating enabling environment for active participation of women and women with disabilities in decision making processes in Wau and Gogrial West Counties through dialogues, advocacy and “What’s Up” sessions. Based on this background, Help a Child is currently recruiting three Field Officers to be based in Wau, Kuajok and Mapel.

  • The Field Officer performs a key role in implementing and overseeing Help a Child’s life-skills activities with 80% women and girls participation.

  • S/he is responsible for representing the consortium, project and Help a Child. In addition, s/he should be able to plan, coordinate, facilitate and implement all Help a Child project activities in his/her specific duty station.

  • The Field Officer may be assigned or delegated to perform extra assignments by his immediate supervisor (s) and the consortium members any time when deemed necessary. The Field Officers will report to Program Manager.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation, coordination and monitoring of the women empowerment activities at the field level, ensuring implementation schedules are met as per the detailed activity plan, and that adherence to systems for quality project implementation are reinforced.

  • Represent Help a Child in all field based consortium reviews, meetings and any other relevant consortium activities.

  • Act as the lead facilitator for ‘What’s Up?!’ life skills sessions, develop the curriculum of life skills training and sessions, and other life skills events/activities including but not limited to Boruboru and other What’s Up group locations.

  • Coordinate, monitor, and report on project activities according to the consourtium and Help a Child internal project cycle management procedures.

  • Coordinate communication and facilitate information sharing among the project team, partners, project beneficiaries, and other stakeholders to strengthen communities’ interests, involvement, and support networks.

  • Compile activity level data as per project requirements and contribute to the preparation of reports.

  • Support MEAL system to ensure accessibility and reliability of information.

  • Communicate key project information and results with community members, colleagues, and stakeholders.

  • Contribute to reflective conversations on ongoing project interventions.

  • Share insights and perspectives based on observations and interactions with community
    members, colleagues and stakeholders.

    Qualification and personal specifications

  • Minimum qualification is Bachelor degrees in social work, community development, gender studies, and project cycle management from a recognized university. Master’s degree will be an added advantage.

  • Minimum professional experience of three years in managing projects/programs and consortia, or working with partners.

  • Excellent knowledge and experience in MS applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, MS-Word.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, planning and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and pays attention to details.

  • Ability to identify issues/needs, define solutions and design innovation actions for solving the needs.

  • Able to illustrate good integrity records and actions taken.

  • Good command of English and fluent in any South Sudan or duty station local language (Juba Arabic).

  • Excellent writing skills, budget planning and budget controls.

  • Full support of the vision, mission and Christian core values of Help a Child.

  • Observation, active listening, and analytical skills with ability to make sound judgments.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people.

  • Proactive, resourceful, solutions oriented and results-oriented.

  • He / she has strong experience and good skills in community mobilization and engagement.
