Habitat for Humanity Materials and Labor Specialist Jobs in Kenya;Support efforts, understanding, practices and learning on construction practices, including value engineering, building capacity of developers and owner‑driven builders, and documenting existing and emerging practices that contribute to affordable housing. Catalyse market innovation to ensure access and utilization of affordable labour and materials, improving quality of construction in incremental housing for low‑income households.

Responsibilities

Sector Assessments & Technical Recommendations

  • Conduct sector assessments and provide expert recommendations.

  • Support studies on market conditions for building materials and innovations.

    Market Systems Development

  • Identify and solicit initiatives from housing value chain actors.

  • Build relationships and support facilitation activities.

  • Provide project management for housing market systems mapping and research.

    Technical Support & Innovation

  • Support firms in testing and applying innovative technologies and economical building materials.

  • Contribute to development of Housing Quality Standard guide.

  • Provide technical advice on new shelter and labour interventions.

    Knowledge & Data Systems

  • Work with results team to develop monitoring systems.

  • Support knowledge and application of construction materials and labour.

  • Ensure timely reporting and dissemination of program details.

    Representation & Collaboration

  • Represent Habitat in industry gatherings and conferences.

  • Collaborate with Construction Practices Manager and Regional Director.

  • Liaise with partners and provide technical inputs.

    Programme Development & Compliance

  • Support proposal development and donor reporting.

  • Ensure alignment with market systems and HHS principles.

    Requirements

    Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in
    Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture.

    Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in construction, contracts and project management.

  • Experience in project planning, execution and contracts management.

  • Understanding of green/sustainable construction materials and labour.

  • Experience in Market Systems Development.

  • Knowledge of housing construction labour sector.

  • Ability to analyse financial data and manage resources.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Fluency in English and Swahili.

  • Ability to motivate teams and manage multiple projects.

  • Willingness to travel to remote destinations.

    Preferred

  • Private sector experience.

  • PMP certification highly desirable.
