Job Summary

  • To provide safe/competent/prompt nursing care to all patients.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    Midwifery and Nursing duties

  • Ensure safe and timely deliveries for mothers in labour, including conducting deliveries when called upon.

  • Ensure nursing care plan is adhered to and documented

  • Early escalation to other team members including consultants in case of complications

  • Risk detection and management in a timely manner.

    Client experience, relations and affairs

  • Ensure the client and family are taken care of, their needs met in a timely manner and feedback given as required, in line with hospital policies

  • Handle complaints as per policy

    Operations and Business Planning

  • Budgets for department including projection

  • Work with other team members to grow the department

  • Ensure the department has the right equipment and tools required for operations

  • Suggest and instituting cost-containment measures
  • Report as required to other key departments and offices

    Staff Management

  • Ensure department is adequately staffed at all times

  • Foster and promote teamwork and ensure seamless cohesion between consultants and nurses.

  • Staff relations in line with hospital HR Manual

  • Planning and Budgeting for staff training.

    Quality agenda

  • Support departmental and hospital-wide quality agenda

  • Develop and maintain infection-control procedures

    Management of Clinical processes

  • Manage departmental inventory in line with hospital policies.

  • Work with H.o.D and Consultants to ensure SoPs, Policies, Procedures and Guidelines are developed, implemented, followed, monitored and reported.

  • Continuous nursing professional education for departmental staff

  • Reporting
    per institutional and Government (MoH) policies

    • Flexibility in work scope and timings

    Qualifications

    • Diploma in KRN/KRM, KRM, KRCHN

    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred but not mandatory)

    • Valid practicing license from Nursing council of Kenya.

    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a practicing nurse.

    • Experience running a busy maternity department for at least 3 years as an In-charge.
