Main Duties and Responsibilities

Nursing duties

  • Ensure timely response to and management of Accident & Emergency and Casualty patients.

  • Conduct procedures as necessary, within the scopes of nursing training.

  • Ensure nursing care plan is adhered to and documented

  • Early escalation to other team members including consultants in case of anticipated risks and complications

  • Risk detection and management in a timely manner.

    Management of Clinical processes

  • Work with Medical Officers and Consultants to ensure SoPs, Policies, Procedures and Guidelines are developed, implemented, followed, monitored and reported.

  • Continuous nursing professional education for departmental staff – Ensure staff have the right skills for the job they do

  • Report per institutional and Government (MoH) policies

    Client experience, relations and affairs

  • Ensure the client and family are taken care of, their needs met in a timely manner and feedback given as required, in line with hospital policies

  • Handle complaints as per policy

    Operations and Business Planning

  • Manage departmental inventory in line with hospital policies

  • Budgets for department including projection

  • Work with other team members to grow the department, and ensure business sustainability.

  • Ensuring the department has the right supplies, equipment and tools required for operations.

  • Suggesting and instituting cost-containment measures

  • Reporting as required to other key departments and offices

    Staff Management

  • Ensure department is adequately staffed at all times

  • Fostering teamwork and ensuring seamless cohesion between different cadres of staff.

  • Staff relations in line with hospital HR Manual: Handle staff complaints, disciplinary processes and other relational issues

  • Planning and
    Budgeting for staff training.

    Quality agenda

  • Supporting departmental and hospital-wide quality agenda

  • Developing and Maintaining infection-control procedures

    Desired Competencies

    • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and work both collaboratively and independently to meet deadlines

    • Ability to collaborate with and influence individuals at all levels of the hospital

    • Exceptional interpersonal and patient service communication skills

    • Skilled at employing conflict resolution and service recovery strategies to resolve issues and appease patients.

    • Ability to develop and drive policy

    • Problem-solving

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing

    • At least 5 years’ experience in nursing

    • 3 years’ experience managing a similar department in an equivalent or higher institution.
