Grade 6 Exams Won't Be Used in Junior Secondary Placement

Presidential Working Party on Education Reform has recommended that the just concluded Grade 6 assessment will not be used for placement in Junior Secondary schools.

In the report, the stakeholders said the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will be used to monitor learning progress.

"It will be used as an assessment to monitor learning progress and provide feedback to education sector players on areas that require intervention."

The task force also wants junior secondary learners to be domiciled in existing primary schools.

"The construction of laboratories will be prioritised within the next year.

Members of Parliament are asked to work towards providing support for the extra facilities," the statement read.

"Priority will be given to teachers who will be handling Grade 7 learners."

Additionally, the government will recruit 30,000 teachers by January to facilitate the transition and bridge the teacher shortage.
