Role Overview

The Resource Mobilization Officer will support the CHAI Rwanda Office in establishing and executing its first fundraising strategy. Institutionalizing fundraising practices is a top priority of the CHAI Rwanda office.

The fellow will have the opportunity to work in partnership with the Country Director and Senior Program Managers, as well as engage with all of the different program teams at CHAI to gain a strong understanding of the work across the organization.

The Resource Mobilization Officer will work closely with the senior management team and various program managers to support the development/finalization, implementation, and institutionalization of a long-term fundraising strategy.

This will include the development of other complementary fundraising tools including fundraising SOPs and an indicator framework that can be used to track progress against the strategy quarterly.

In addition to the fundraising strategy, the Resource Mobilization Officer will also coordinate grant proposals and other donor-facing communication products in collaboration with the program managers and other technical leads.

Concurrently, the fellow will work to build the capacity of the staff in the CHAI Rwanda office across a variety of fundraising activities to ensure the team is able to continue building new skills in proposal writing, donor engagement, and other priorities as requested by the team.

Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy

  • Support the development of a long-term fundraising strategy for the CHAI Rwanda Office

  • Assist in developing fundraising standard operating procedures to outline roles and responsibilities for all fundraising activities

  • Develop an indicator framework to track CHAI Rwanda’s progress against fundraising strategy

  • Prepare quarterly progress updates to present to the CHAI Rwanda management team

  • Support the fundraising working group through coordination and management of regular meetings

    Donor Engagement

  • Provide project management for the grant application process, including narrative development and timely submission of grant applications

  • Conduct research on potential funders and work with senior management team
    to identify a proposed scope of work and develop concept notes and other outreach materials

  • Develop slide decks, one-pagers, and other communication materials to highlight CHAI’s current programmatic work that can be shared with potential donors and partners

  • Assist with donor reporting, including coordination of inputs and narrative drafting

    Knowledge Management

  • Document lessons learned following each grant proposal process and share out with CHAI Rwanda team

  • Hold learning sessions to build capacity of the CHAI Rwanda team, including on how to scope potential donors and proposal writing

  • Where requested, develop additional resource mobilization training materials for government counterparts, including within Ministry of Health and University of Rwanda

    Skills and Experience

    Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required

  • Strong writing skills with demonstrated experience drafting grant applications or proposals*

  • At least one year of professional experience in fundraising*

  • Experience managing relationships with donors, partners, or other key stakeholders*

  • Strong public speaking skills with experience delivering formal presentations or trainings

  • Experience developing communications materials, such as concept notes, PowerPoints, briefing materials

  • Excellent project management skills, including past experience working on complex projects from creation to completion, managing multiple projects, and/or coordinating across teams to meet tight deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated capacity to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups

  • Capable of using a collaborative, team-oriented approach to projects
