    The Candidate

  • The Country Manager is responsible for providing dedicated support to our staff, fellows, alumni and partner organizations in Uganda.

  • The Country Manager oversees all fellow and alumni leadership programming, including the coordination of local, regional and organization-wide training events.

  • The Country Manager is also responsible for the day-to-day management of the country office, including fiscal oversight, facilities management and other administrative responsibilities.

  • They will collaborate closely with colleagues across the organization (selection, programs, communications, development, people) in order to effectively manage the country office and programs.

  • The position reports to the Vice President of Programs.

  • This position requires exceptional passion for our work and the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.

    Responsibilities

    Fellow Programming and Support

  • Oversee fellowship logistics (e.g. housing, financial, travel)

  • Manage recruitment efforts and selection process for new fellows

  • Oversee fellow on-boarding, including orientation training, communications, logistical support, etc.

  • Ensure that all fellowship health, safety, and security requirements are met. Manage response to health, safety and security issues and concerns

  • Conduct regular in-person and phone check-ins with fellows. Facilitate professional and personal development during the fellowship year

  • Execute and facilitate country-based activities and events, including leadership development workshops and community building events

    Placement Organization Relationship Management

  • Manage annual selection process. Identify and recruit prospective placement organizations

  • Support placement organizations to develop fellow role descriptions, negotiate cost-shares and contracts, and make logistical preparations for hosting fellows

  • Communicate regularly with placement organization staff in order to support fellows

  • Facilitate professional development and networking workshops for placement organization staff

    Alumni Programming

  • Oversee national alumni strategy

  • Support the alumni committee to implement programming and amplify community building efforts

  • Oversee GHC-led
    professional development and networking events

    Office Management

  • Ensure the office operates in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations

  • Ensure office operations and procedures align with GHC health, safety and security policies

  • Develop and monitor the annual budget

    Team Management

  • Hire and manage country team staff and interns. Ensure team thrives through effective management

  • Regularly facilitate supervisory check-ins and team meetings

  • Support staff professional development through performance evaluation, coaching, and mentorship

    Strategic Partnerships

  • Represent GHC at networking events and with key stakeholders

  • Develop strategic partners to advance GHC programming (e.g. curriculum design, strategic advisors, advocacy, fundraising)

    Qualifications

  • 5+ years work experience, preferably in non-profit or social sector

  • Strong public presence; comfortable facilitating discussions and workshops with diverse audiences of different sizes, ability to represent GHC in public settings

  • Strong project manager; ability to deliver high-quality work products on time under frequent, tight timelines

  • Demonstrated success coaching others to achieve high results, including in cross-cultural relationships

  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, including in-country, regional and international trips

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred

  • Experience with event planning and/or program logistics management preferred

  • Experience in partnership building and management preferred

  • Experience and comfort with budget creation and management preferred

  • Experience in training and facilitation preferred
