Job Purpose

The Managing Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the organization. S/he is responsible to the Board of Directors for providing strategic leadership management, drawing and execution of
plans for the implementation of the Company’s mandate. S/he will be Secretary to the Board and
will provide overall direction of the Company.

Job descriptions

Guide in the development of relevant policies and legislation in regard to water and sanitation in the area of jurisdiction

Implement the decisions of the Board Committee

Facilitate the preparation and implementation of the Board’s strategic and annual work plans

Oversee the implementation of Giwasco policies and plans governing the Company in liaison with the Board and other relevant authorities.

Co-ordinate and oversee the management of water sources, water distribution services and conservation of environment in the area of jurisdiction in consultation with relevant stakeholders

Facilitate resource mobilization to enhance water and sanitation services to the customers

Forster relationship with development partners and stakeholders for the benefit of quality and adequate water for the customers in the area of jurisdiction

Ensuring prudent management of all available resources

Initiating training and sensitization programmes for employees and water users.

Foster conducive corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good governance in line with the Constitution of Kenya

Create a corporate environment that attracts, retains and motivates employees to perform

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in any

of the following fields: - Civil/Water engineering, Environmental Science, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Commerce or any other related degree from a recognized university.

A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.

Membership in any professional body will be an added advantage.

Have served for a minimum period of five (5) years in the Public/Private Sector/Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)/Public Benefits Organization/International Organization, three (3) of which must have been at senior management/supervisory role.

Having worked in a water sector organisation will be added advantage.

Have demonstrated professional competence, leadership qualities as well as good understanding of strategic management;

Have good Information Communication Technology, networking and collaborative skills;

A self-driven team player and results oriented;

Have a clear understanding of local, national and international conventions and treaties governing water management

Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity
