Geneva Global seeks to hire two drivers on a short-term contract basis with the potential for a longer-term contract.

Geneva Global Ethiopia, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, REBs and Ethiopian NGOs is managing a Speed School program which caters for the education of out-of-school children who missed their chance of enrolling in the conventional school system.

The Speed School program gives a second chance at quality education for children ages 9 to 14 through an accelerated learning model.

Summary of the Driver’s Role

The assigned driver manages automobile safely and efficiently transports Geneva Global staff to assigned places in the implementation regions of Ethiopia.

The position will require flexibility, working beyond office hours and during weekends at times depending on work requirements. The driver is also required to perform the following essential duties.

Specific Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

  • Reads and understands specific vehicle operating manual and is able to operate every device in the car;
  • Ensures that the log book is fully used, and travels are recorded including daily mileage, fuel consumption; locations, etc.
  • Ensures vehicles are insured and license is renewed;
  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance of the car (check fuel, oil, water, brakes, tires)
    and performs minor repairs and ensures the safety of the car all the times;
  • Ensures the vehicle is serviced timely as per the schedule;
  • Takes the proper procedures if accidents happen and completes notification to the nearby police and to Geneva Global Office for insurance follow up as well as minimizing any liability to company;
  • Ensures the annual inspection of the vehicle before the set deadline;
  • Drives the vehicle assigned to him/her safely, with strict observance of traffic rules and regulations and the organization’s internal policy;
  • Maintains the automobile in clean, polished, flawless operating condition;
  • Maintains and operates communications devices, emergency response and contingency equipment, including fire extinguisher, first aid kit supplies, etc.;
  • Interacts effectively with personnel; with courteous and accommodating attitudes;
  • Keeps a daily record of his/her own duties and intensively uses daily schedule to complete work;
  • Demonstrates discretion in all matters related to the assignment, including confidential information seen and heard
  • Ensures that the vehicle is utilized for the sole purpose of the organization’s work;
  • Displays the qualities of integrity, honesty, and accountability. Neatness and orderliness are also aspects that will need to be presented;
  • Generally, takes initiative to find work that needs to be done when around the office and assist in doing it;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.

    Job Requirements

    Minimum Required Qualification, Skills and Experiences:

  • Possession of valid Driver’s License minimum level 3 and a safe driving record;
  • Good driving skills and related technical knowledge;
  • High school complete;
  • Successfully undergos employment, reference, criminal and civil background check;
  • Tested and evaluated free of alcohol or substance abuse;
  • Ability to communicate well in English and Amharic as well as unusual vehicle sounds, horns, sirens, and other ordinary traffic sounds and warnings.
