FUNFED Chief Finance and Operating Officer Jobs in Egypt & Mauritius

Our Client- Afreximbank (headquartered in Cairo, Egypt) is a Trade Finance Bank established for the purpose of financing, promoting and expanding Intra-African and Extra-African Trade.



The Bank was established through an agreement signed by member states and multilateral organisations and a charter that governs its corporate structure.


In addressing the gaps in Intra-African Trade, the Bank has set up an Investment Holding company- Fund for Africa's Export Development (FUNFED), under its Equity Investment Programme.


Responsible for:


  • Administration of Financial Operations and Treasury of FUNFED, monitoring of control systems designed to preserve FUNFED’s investments and reporting accurate financial results.
  • Overseeing the shared services and outsourced functions provided to FUNFED and acting as a central point of contact between FUNFED and outsourced service providers such as auditors, lawyers, accountants, compliance providers, etc.
  • Interaction with the consultant managing the outsourced internal audit function.
  • Company secretarial duties at commencement of operations.
  • Act as the linchpin between the FUNFED operations and the wider Afreximbank senior management.
  • Responsible for the Fund’s critical deliverables to investors (Quarterly/Annual Report to LPs, etc.)
  • Responsible for overseeing Shared Services Center (SSC) consisting bookkeepers, fund accountants, fund administrator, etc. as well as providing the operational direction and managing the day-to-day operations of the SSC in line with the service level agreement.
  • The central contact point for the Fund’s Report to its LPs.
  • Work in tandem with Investment
  • Professionals to execute investment including reviewing the financial models


    Duties and Responsibilities


    Financial Planning and Management

  • Provide overall guidance in the administration of FUNFED’s and the equity funds’ finance functions.
  • Develop and implement financial and tax strategies for FUNFED.
  • Collaborate with investment and portfolio management teams to implement investment, finance and portfolio management strategies for the funds.
  • Prepare a detailed 1 year business plan and 3 year forecast.
  • Interact with team to ensure tax, treasury and accounting activities are properly managed.
  • Ensure staff payroll process and Shared Services fee allocation are effectively carried out.
  • Coordinate with the Shared Services team to ensure timely availability of financial reports for different classes of stakeholders.

    Fund Accounting

  • Prepare timely and accurate Net Assets Values, yields, distributions, fees and accruals and other fund accounting output for subsequent review.
  • Record, accurately reconcile and review various accounts e.g. capital commitments, allocations and distributions etc. in accordance with FUNFED’s policies and procedures.
  • Identify exceptions and problems affecting accounting records and valuations, communicating same to management, and assisting in their resolution.
  • Report periodically to management on the Funds’ activities and other accounting concerns.
  • External benchmarking (tracking of FUNFED portfolio companies vs stock market index and other investment companies where applicable).
  • Ensure proper valuation and supporting documentation of portfolio investments.
  • Coordinate the issuance of drawdown notices.

    Internal Accounting

  • Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses and information reports.
  • Provide
    timely, accurate analysis of budgets and financial reports to assist the CEO and other executives with their responsibilities.
  • Oversee completion of timely annual financial statements by managing external audit of fund financial statements and valuation of portfolio companies.
  • Monitor financial performance by measuring and analysing results; initiating corrective actions and minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization.

    Operations Management

  • strategy for FUNFED.
  • Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all internal and external processes.
  • Develop and execute operating policies to support the fund’s objectives.
  • Provide timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the company.
  • Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for systems, processes, and personnel designed to support the rapid growth objectives of FUNFED.

    Leadership and People Management

  • Provide oversight, direction and coaching to team members.
  • Create an enabling environment that empowers staff to achieve set goals and objectives.
  • Provide appropriate assignments and experiences to support the learning and development of team members.
  • Carry out regular reviews and assessment of all staff once a year.
  • Demonstrate high standards of ethical behavior and integrity.
  • Address inappropriate behavior demonstrated by team members and handle accordingly as set out in the company policy
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Management and/or Board/Board Committees.


    Requirements


  • Bachelor and Masters’ degrees in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business or related subjects.
  • Relevant professional certifications e.g. CPA, ACA, CFA, ACCA or its equivalent
  • Minimum of 15 years relevant experience in a financial leadership role with a private equity fund.
  • Experience of statutory financial reporting and knowledge of IFRS.
  • Experience working with/in the operations team of a private equity.
  • Highly effective communicator both internally (senior management) and externally (investors and other stakeholders).
  • Self-starter with a sense of responsibility.
  • Excellent attitude given this will be a top to bottom type role.
  • Timelines and deliverables focused
  • Excellent analytical skills, high aptitude for quantitative reasoning and problem-solving.
  • Relevant stakeholder management experience with strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong administrative and organization skills
  • Advanced skills in Excel and financial modelling.
  • Potential to grow with the trajectory of FUNFED.
