Funded Internship on Formulating Green Climate Fund Project Proposals

The Africa Sustainability Hub hosted at the Africa Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) in partnership with the University of Sussex (U.K) is offering a 2 week fully funded internship for policymakers from Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda on the preparation of Green Climate Fund (GCF) proposals.


The GCF is the financial mechanism responsible for funding implementation of UN climate policy. The training scheduled to take place from July 9-20, 2018 at Lukenya GateAway – about 10 Kms from Nairobi CBD.


The aim of the internship is to enhance the skillset of specific policymakers working on GCF activities in developing relevant proposals to mobilise funds from the GCF. The project will provide training to selected policy makers on the application the Climate Relevant Innovation Builders tool to develope competent proposals.

The CRIBS tool to be used for the training has been approved by GCF board as a useful tool for developing competent proposals especially for developing countries. Participants will have an opportunity to learn from experts who developed the tool

Expected Ooutput

  • At least 4 fully developed proposals for each country ready for submission to the GCF board.
  • Concept note for a regionalally integrated GCF proposal


    Outcomes: After completion of this internship workshop, participants will have gained knowledge and experience related to:

  • Current international policy concerning climate change and clean energy
    Funding options for clean energy access and promoting energy efficiency
  • Assessing energy markets and sustainable development impacts
  • Identifying and assessing options for implementation
  • Policy makers will develop the knowledge and capacity to design, draft and submit applications to the GCF to fund implementation of CRIBs.

    Target Group: Staff from National Designated Authorities (NDAs), staff from Accredited Entities or those seeking accreditation, Entrepreneurs, Consultants, Project developers, government officials,

    policy advisors, and staff of utility companies and NGOs.


    Course Organization: Two-week proposal development workshop. There will be follow-up activities including monthly telephone calls- to provide technical support and online engagement via project website, videos of the training and briefing materials.

    Training dates: 9th – 20th July 2018

    Venue: Lukenya GateAway.

    Funding: Successful applicants will be fully sponsored to the workshop. The workshop organisers will cover costs of accommodation, flights, ground transport and daily subsistence allowance for the participants.

    Key Requirements For Applicants:

  • They must be working in the national or county government and has ongoing work or proposal scheduled to be submitted for GCF funding
  • Candidates should be nominated by relevant government department
  • Candidates should provide an outline of their GCF idea or proposal being worked on
  • Candidates must have knowledge of GCF proposal requirements and may have been part of other submitted/successful GCF proposals.

    How to Apply

    Applicants should submit a letter of intent, nomination letter from the Government Agency i.e. NDAs and a one page note on the GCF proposal they will be working on.
