Job Summary:

This role is responsible for contribution to the growth of the Bank’s asset and liabilities books through the management of a portfolio of all assigned accounts and for assisting the Business team at the branch with market intelligence & referrals and mining of portfolio to general leads and increase wallet share.

Key responsibilities:

• Ensure the overall portfolio performance and asset quality remains strong and independently assess, and, jointly with SME Relationship Managers, develop strategies and actions to resolve issues that could increase risk and/or create loss for the Bank.

• Analyze financial requirements of customer and match with the bank’s product offerings

• Develop and maintain strong working relations with all existing clients at key levels to optimize the utilization of approved facilities

• Continually Identify and exploit cross selling opportunities that embed the bank and its products
with the customers’ needs Develop key triggers for portfolio to generate leads e.g., declining balances to ensure retention of potentially unhappy customers

• Manage business risk associated with SME businesses e.g., Portfolio at risk

• To evaluate credit proposals and ensure the credit applications process on a timely basis with the bank’s set turnaround times.

• Ensure there is proper covenants tracking for the assigned portfolio and all approved terms and
conditions for facilities are up-to-date.

• To effectively manage and expand the relationships with existing SME banking clients and bringing in new partnerships from existing portfolio so as to ensure business growth and continuity.

• To manage, maintain and enhance the assigned Portfolio of existing customers.

• Portfolio RM would be responsible for Timely renewal and enhancement of mapped customers,
and for cross-sell and up-sell on these customers.

• Drive new acquisitions through customer referrals.

• Act as key consultant to client’s senior management, providing them with the evaluation and
implementation of financing strategies or structures.

• Maintaining adequate relationship contact with assigned customers to ensure their expectations
are managed and that they have appropriate understanding of FCB.

• Anticipate and be continually sensitive to the shifting customer expectations and initiate
appropriate measures to ensure that FCB stays ahead of competitors in rendering customer
service;

• In liaison with the Business Centre Managers handle transactions for SME customers on a day to
day basis always ensuring the bank is not unduly exposed

• Identify and develop a dynamic target pipeline and market for new profitable and/or status
customers from the identified target sectors;

• Ensure compliance to Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti Money Laundering (AML) requirements in all dealings with existing and potential customers.

• Participate in cross-functional activities that help promote and nurture collective responsibility to the bigger objectives of
the Bank.

• Active portfolio management and development by maintaining existing income sources.

• Developing and managing customer relationships with target customers through active and measurable call visit plans with all assigned customers and prospects.

• Responsible for structuring and negotiating finance and/or lease agreements according to
established guidelines.

• Coordination of services for assigned clients, the monitoring of contractual obligations for these accounts and active participation in retentive marketing efforts for securing additional business opportunities with clients.

• Provide outstanding relationship management and advice to a varied and challenging mix of business customers.

• Negotiation of new financing arrangements and opportunities, preparation and review of proposals
for approval

• Adopt a value based management approach to cost control.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a Bachelors Degree in Business, or finance related field. Masters degree an added
    advantage.

  • Professional Banking operations training e.g. AKIB, ACIB, Business Development background

  • Have a minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in a similar position with proven
    result oriented track record.

  • Experience in banking industry or a financial institution.

  • A proven record of successfully managing customer relations and growing a portfolio of
    financing and asset clients.

    • Personality: A go-getter, enthusiastic, results oriented with excellent communication and social
    skills. A forward planner with clear focus, ardent team player, mature, reliable, hard working and
    able to work without supervision.

    • Sound knowledge of the Bank’s products and services; CBK Prudential Guidelines.

    Job skills:

  • Understand the Banking Act, Central Bank Regulations, prudential guidelines

  • Knowledge of current trends in client relations; business trends in banking & financial
    institutions

  • Demonstrate a high degree of sensitivity, confidentiality when dealing with internal &external customers.

  • Have a high sense of diplomacy, accuracy, attention for detail and with strong analytical
    ability.

  • High levels of professionalism and professional development.

  • Business acumen, Strategic thinker with ability to make sound decisions for the business

  • Have good PR/interpersonal skills, have outstanding communication and reporting skills,
    problem analysis and listening ability.

  • Honest with impeccable integrity (high ethical standards).

  • Computer skills: Must be adept in use of Ms Word, Excel, Access, power-point, Internet and email.
