FHI 360 International NGO Technical Officer, Laboratory Careers in Kenya

Job Summary

Provides laboratory mentorship with technical assistance, capacity building, training, and quality assurance services. In addition, prepares laboratory procedures and manuals and trains staff in their use. Prepares reports and supports the follow-up of technical assistance and assessment visits to include corrective actions and capacity building initiatives to medical laboratories serving the public health project

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with facility based laboratory staff to provide laboratory technical assistance as needed and requested as part of overall mentorship improvement schemes.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching, OJT and support supervision of laboratory and other staff on laboratory related services and procedures in the respective regions
  • Ensure good laboratory networks for sample shipping and timely results delivery in supported regions
  • Support the preparation and delivery of trainings to laboratory staff (including general laboratory technician training and laboratory supervisor training) and training-related services.
  • In close collaboration with laboratory management support the follow-up of needed corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assist laboratories and capacity laboratory hire with development of routine SOP development and internal quality control interpretation/EQA.
  • Support selected laboratories with preparation towards the implementation of ISO15189/WHO-AFRO accreditation process.
  • Provide laboratory improvement report of all the laboratories within his/her allocated region within the agreed time period.

    Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of laboratory ISO 15189/WHO AFRO implementation
  • Proven capability and direct experience in clinical and research laboratory functions and services, including in resource constrained settings.
  • Resourceful and creative thinker with the ability to develop simple and efficient solutions and recommendations.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly diplomacy.
  • Good in both written and spoken English and report writing.
  • Direct experience developing and delivering trainings in laboratory sciences.
  • Experience in an accredited lab or a lab undergoing accreditation will be an added advantage

    Job Summary

    To provide technical support to implement high quality Community Service and HIV Prevention strategies among the targeted populations who are at high risk of HV Infection.

    Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance to implementing partners in the design and implementation of HIV prevention activities targeted vulnerable populations as well as provision of community services
  • Coordinate HTS activities in the County
  • Develop strategies and tools for the design and implementation of specific technical components.
  • Analyze data sets and technical assessment findings for decision making.
  • Develops and oversees detailed work plans and budgets for implementing partners
  • Provides technical guidance on HIV prevention and community based interventions including community mobilization, development of messages, materials and communication channels.
  • Monitors ongoing Community services and HIV prevention interventions including HTS to ensure that activities are on schedule, meet program quality criteria, and yield expected results.
  • Develops excellent working relationships with all critical stakeholders, share information as relevant, and build and promote better working and synergies between activities, partners and the different components of the project.
  • Develops lessons learned from programs and apply these lessons to modify existing program and improve the design of new
    programs.
  • Represents the project at professional meetings and conferences
  • Maintains close liaison with partners working in the field of HIV prevention in the supported region.
  • Participate in the compilation and dissemination of project quarterly, annual and semi-annual reports.

    Qualifications

  • BS/BA in public health or related field, and 5-7 years relevant experience in HIV/AIDS or family planning with international development programs or Masters’ degree with 3-5 years relevant in public health, communication, marketing, social science or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in managing behavior change communication and/or social marketing projects, with responsibility for providing strategic direction and managing staff/funds.

    FHI 360 International NGO Technical Officer, Systems Specialist (GIS mHealth) Careers in Kenya

    Job Summary

    The Technical Officer-Systems Specialist will be part of the M&E team at HIV Service Delivery Support Activity - Rift Valley and will work under the direct supervision of the Director M&E Under guidance of the Director M&E, he/she will lead the development and maintenance of a comprehensive HMIS platform including GIS and information resource to support the management and reporting of complex information.

    Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, adaption/improvement of existing automated performance reporting systems, including enhanced user interfaces and compatibility across reporting systems using Java, Access, Visual Basic and SQL in response to meet project information needs
  • Develop and maintain a GIS database and mhealth solutions to meet project needs
  • Develop and maintain repository database for EMR data from support health facilities
  • Ensure adequate and up to date documentation of database applications.
  • Provide technical guidance in the installation of developed applications, lead in writing application manuals, user manuals.
  • Ensure ongoing maintenance and technical support to users of database applications.
  • Perform needs assessment and works with Technical staff at project and implementing partner level to determine feasibility of development of new databases and enhancements or modifications to existing databases
  • Develops and ensures adherence to data management policies e.g. USG to ensure the security and confidentiality project data.
  • Monitors staff compliance with confidentiality policies to assure that security standards are met.
  • Develop standardized programming and data documentation procedures relevant to the data systems.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor of science degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Mathematics or related field with 5-7 years relevant experience or Masters’ degree with 3-5 years relevant in field.
  • Solid experience in database development, web-based reporting systems, management information systems, health informatics, GIS tools, information storage and security, data quality assurance, mobile/SMS technologies, and other relevant technologies.
  • Demonstrated programming skills using either Visual Basic, Java, MySQL, SQL, Dreamweaver, JavaDb, python or Arc Objects
  • Computer proficiency in word processing, databases, spreadsheets, including advanced skills in at least two of the following programs: SPSS, Excel, Epi Info, Stata, and Ms Access.
  • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge through informal and formal trainings.
