Background:

FHI 360 is seeking qualified candidates for a DCOP position for an anticipated community nutrition activity in Ethiopia. The activity will build upon a long tradition of USAID nutrition funding in Ethiopia and is expected to focus on enhancing multisector coordination and accountability; improving nutrition practices and health-seeking behaviors; and strengthening delivery of quality nutrition services within USAID’s Feed the Future Zones of Influence.

This will be a full-time position based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for a duration of five years. Ethiopian nationals are strongly encouraged to apply. Availability of the position is contingent upon successful award of the activity to FHI 360.


Description:
Provide technical leadership on how to accelerate progress on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of child wasting, in alignment with national policies and guidelines. Establishes and continually refines technical frameworks, approaches, tools, and activities for that project.

Identifies specialized partnership needs, engages qualified partners to ensure technical performance. Monitors all technical aspects of a project from initiation through delivery. Ensures completion of project technical deliverables are on schedule and within budget constraints. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure technical objectives are met. Contributes project experience and learning to global thought leadership initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the technical lead and key point of contact for the prevention, early detection, and treatment of child wasting as well as overall field operations for the project.
  • Ensures high quality technical deliverables—including regional workplans and reports—are developed, submitted, and approved on schedule and within budget parameters.
  • Develops and implements processes and procedures to achieve strategic technical goals of the project.
  • Ensures operational activities are compliant with client agreements, government regulations, and the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Responds to client requests and questions and ensures timely drafts and submissions of consents, approvals and/or waivers.
  • Manages monitoring and evaluation activities of the project related to child wasting including survey implementation and contributing to the finalization and submission of project work plans, performance monitoring plans and quarterly, annual, and other reports.
  • Manages the relationship with all subcontracted organizations on technical matters related to child wasting.
  • Promotes project success by collecting, writing, and distributing success stories, case studies, photos, and outreach at events.
  • Attends informative events related to child wasting to network and learn information that could be valuable to project activities.
  • Supports knowledge management on prevention, early detection, and treatment of child wasting, including the capture and articulation of success stories, best practices and lessons learned.
  • Provides direct supervision for staff at national
    and regional levels and conducts training and process improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with company and donor standards.
  • Supports performance management and professional development of direct reports, including ongoing feedback, coaching and career support.


    Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree or its international equivalent in public health, emergency nutrition, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of related work experience in nutrition, including 8 years of leadership and/or line experience.
  • Experience managing and implementing donor-funded nutrition programs, preferably within Ethiopia or similar contexts.
  • Technical expertise in the prevention, early detection, and treatment of child wasting.
  • Demonstrated abilities in nutrition surveillance and SMART survey design and implementation.
  • Experience managing staff, consultants, and subcontractor organizations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant computer software skills (at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
  • Willingness to travel within country for technical and operational oversight.
  • Oral and written fluency in English.
