Job Summary

As a member of Food for the Hungry Ethiopia's Information Technology (FHE IT) team, the IT Officer will be responsible for supporting the staff of FH Ethiopia, as well as assisting daily operations of the IT infrastructure including but not limited to software installation and upgrades, system builds, creating and maintaining organizational databases for assigned project sites; managing all ICT equipment and electronic communication devices, facilitating repairs and maintenance of ICT equipment, preparing periodic ICT reports and organizing ICT related trainings, as well as providing general end user and desktop support which are critical to the operations of FH Ethiopia.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Manage all project related ICT support services and ensure that adequate level of support is being provided to the organization;

  • Maintains organizational information communication database using available software for exchange, back up, tracking and sorting administrative and communication information;

  • Maintain and regularly update thorough documentation relating to the network configuration and its administration, detailing problem determination and resolution, thus ensuring pooled knowledge in the event of a disaster;

  • Ensures all FH/E’s information communication technology equipment has full functionality on a reliable and timely basis; Manage and ensure inventory of IT assets are kept up to date;

  • Arranges and performs repair and maintenance of computers, servers, LCD Projectors, UPSs, printers, LAN/WLAN/WAN connections, etc on regular bases;

  • Creates updates and maintains internal and external electronic communication database; Keep abreast of new developments and advancements in information communication technology (ICT) and make suggestions for improvements to services provided;

  • Advises on ICT documentation production and distribution within FH/E;

  • Monitors proper implementation of FH/E’s ICT Policy and Procedures and Ensure that electronic internal and external communication channels are operating as per FH/E policies and procedures;

  • Ensure that all precautions are taken concerning sensitive information;

  • Avails and updates anti-virus software in each workstation and electronic devices for protection and follows the standard maintenance checklist for periodic checks of machines;

  • Arrange and Conduct essential trainings on IT Introduction to Computer, Microsoft and Linux Packages like Skype, Dropbox and Google Apps for new and existing staffs;

  • In coordination with Project Managers and the Addis IT team plan a realistic support visit schedule to project sites and work in a team spirit;

  • Prepares periodic ICT reports;

  • Undertakes any other related task as assigned by the IT Coordinator and IT Manager;

  • Respond & communicate any IT requirements with Global & Regional offices as needed;

  • Promotes and abides by the VMV of FH;

  • When new ICT equipment is purchased, give required specifications for users and check purchased devices to confirm the proper specifications were provided and that all software is genuine;

  • Update ICT equipment inventory of printers, computers EVDO, CDMA, scanner and photocopier

  • All FHstaff should promote safe conducts and exercises caution in all work activities; staff should accountable for own personal and professional actions and conduct;

    Safety & Security Responsibility

  • Be aware of the stereotypes about women’s and men’s capacities, and discuss how they influence staff, in assigning responsibility, and in managing resources at unit and organization level.

  • Be able to describe how gender issues relate to one’s job responsibilities and how gender equity can be promoted through the execution of those responsibilities.

  • Be familiar with the local Gender Focal Point(s), and go to her/him to learn more about gender issues, or when there is a gender grievance or harassment issue to resolve

  • Within each project and department, discuss FH’s Gender & Diversity and Sexual Harassment and sexual exploitation Policies, so that all staff are conversant with them.

  • Refrain from any comments or gestures that indicate prejudicial views of female staff, especially female supervisors.

  • In each Project and Head Office, ask women staff what changes would make it more “gender-friendly”, organization and implement the recommendations

    Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience on Networking, System Administration, Database Management and IT Support preferably in NGO settings.

    Education/Certifications

  • BSc Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or Management Information Systems or electrical Engineering or related field of studies

    Distinguishing Competencies

  • Must be able to work in a cross cultural environment. Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and staff stationed in Addis and other project areas

  • Strong analytical ability to resolve complex technical issues in addition to effective communication and customer care skills

  • Strong working knowledge of PC Software (Microsoft operating systems and application suites, email systems, Google Applications like Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Docs. etc. Expertise in Ubuntu Linux, Open\Libre Office, PSPP, LAMP Packages, etc

  • Experience installing, upgrading PC hardware

  • Must be goal-oriented and proactive with a relentless focus on results and must have demonstrated ability to quickly and independently get tasks done on short deadlines with attention to details and quality

  • Ability to reason logically and Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Firm belief in and commitment to teamwork, gender equality, and sensitivity to HIV/AIDS.

  • LAN administration experience, CISCO, MCSE or other certifications/trainings in Information Communication Technology, Trainings on Advanced/specialized computer applications are advantages

  • Willingness to continuously update personal IT skills and knowledge.

  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis
