Farm Africa Communication Officer Jobs in Kenya;The Communications Officer plays a key role in devising and implementing the communications strategy of the Kenya country office. The officer contributes to the global communications team and serves as the primary point of contact for the External Relations team in‑country, supporting Farm Africa Programmes and the Nairobi team on strategic communications.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Raise the Profile of Farm Africa’s Work in Kenya (40%)
Undertake stakeholder mapping to identify target audiences, messages, and communication formats.
Develop and implement communications/marketing action plans and media strategies.
Build and maintain external contacts database.
Prepare and produce marketing materials and key messages for projects.
Develop PR and communications activities for project initiatives.
Ensure consistent application of branding and communications guidelines.
Create and distribute multimedia content, press releases, and media engagement.
Document and publicize key Farm Africa events.
Advise on translation of public materials into Kiswahili.
Liaise with government, partners, and private sector for outreach.
Design promotional materials including reports, factsheets, graphics, and presentations.
Contribute to Organization‑Wide Communication Activities (25%)
Coordinate with global communications team in London and Addis Ababa.
Manage Kenya sections of Farm Africa website.
Develop online content for website and social media platforms.
Support internal communications with appropriate materials.
Assist with donor and consultant reports, including editing and formatting.
Create and deliver content (stories, photos, videos, quotes) for donor engagement.
Design, write, and edit publications such as newsletters and annual reports.
Ensure compliance with branding, safeguarding, and donor visibility requirements.
Assist with Global Fundraising (20%)
Collect and update case studies and stories from the field.
Generate marketing collateral to support fundraising initiatives.
Collect high‑resolution images and upload to photo library.
Assist with promotional field visits by External Relations team and supporters.
Build Communications Capacity of
Staff (15%)
Support rollout of internal communications tools and train staff.
Assist with crisis communications response.
Deliver training on presentation skills, photography, promotional writing, and messaging.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
Degree in communications, journalism, public relations, graphic design, or related field.
Experience in photography and promotional image capture.
Proficiency in English and Kiswahili; design and editing tools (InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint).
Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience in communications, media, or marketing.
Prior NGO or private sector experience, ideally linked to agriculture.
Skills & Abilities
Excellent written and spoken English; strong presentation and editing skills.
Proficiency in desktop publishing, photography, videography, video editing, and advanced PowerPoint.
Ability to communicate complex information clearly across media.
Proficiency in digital communications and social media platforms.
Strong strategic thinking, problem‑solving, and innovative skills.
Excellent interpersonal, networking, and relationship‑building abilities.
Strong interviewing, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Understanding of rural development and poverty issues in Kenya (desirable).
