Farm Africa Business Manager Jobs in Kenya;The Business Manager operates as Farm Africa’s central technical authority on Business Development Services (BDS). The role provides cross‑cutting technical expertise, project design inputs and implementation backstopping to all projects within the Farm Africa Kenya portfolio.

The focus is on embedding standardized BDS frameworks into diverse interventions, driving MSME/SME growth, managing catalytic funds and optimizing enterprise data structures.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

Centralized Cross‑Project BDS Support

  • Serve as organizational focal point for BDS expertise.

  • Develop and drive implementation of Farm Africa Agribusiness strategy.

  • Collaborate with partners and Project Managers to refine BDS components.

  • Ensure consistency and quality control across decentralized BDS activities.

  • Coordinate internal resource sharing and deployment of technical staff.

    Project Design & Resource Mobilization

  • Lead technical design of BDS interventions for new grants and projects.

  • Contribute to proposal writing and resource mobilization.

  • Explore blended finance opportunities and integrate within programmes.

    Curriculum Development & Capacity Building

  • Design and maintain repository of BDS models, curricula and tools.

  • Provide coaching and mentorship to partners and project teams.

  • Support Business Support Advisors in diagnosing SME capacity gaps.

    Catalyst & Fund Management

  • Oversee implementation of catalytic funds (revolving/challenge funds).

  • Develop disbursement systems, selection criteria and risk‑mitigation processes.

    SME/MSME Support & Monitoring

  • Support enterprise establishment, growth strategies and market integration.

  • Conduct organizational health checks and capacity assessments.

  • Lead enterprise and market assessments to identify gaps and opportunities.

    Data Collection, Monitoring & Learning

  • Design standardized data collection tools.

  • Partner with MEL team to finalize indicators and compile quarterly reports.

    Networking, Representation & Compliance

  • Represent Farm Africa at industry events, government forums and donor meetings.

    Line Management & Team Leadership

  • Provide mentorship and leadership to BDS teams.

  • Set objectives, supervise progress and conduct appraisals.

  • Recognize
    strong performance and address poor performance promptly.

    Reporting & Compliance

  • Engage in report writing and review project reports.

  • Manage work plans and budgets in compliance with donor and Farm Africa requirements.

  • Review Budget Monitoring Reports and address variances.

  • Submit high‑quality donor narrative and financial reports on time.

    Person Specification

    Education & Knowledge

  • Degree in Business Management, Finance, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness or related field.

  • Master’s or postgraduate qualification desirable.

  • Extensive knowledge of agribusiness sector in East Africa.

  • Knowledge of East African trade and export regulations.

  • Familiarity with global best practice in agricultural market engagement desirable.

    Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with agribusinesses in East African value chains.

  • Experience in fund management and commercial subsidy desirable.

  • Existing networks with BDS providers, finance sector, incubators and accelerators.

  • Experience promoting inclusive value chain development reaching women, youth and poorer farmers desirable.

  • Proven success in implementing commercial programmes to increase competitiveness.

  • Experience in market and value chain analysis.

  • Experience with due diligence and investment readiness for agricultural enterprises.

  • Strong background in project planning, management and budget oversight.

  • M4P programming experience desirable.

  • Demonstrated capacity building experience.
