Fairtrade Africa Internal Audit and Risk Manager Jobs in Kenya; The Internal Audit and Risk Manager leads the internal audit and risk team, providing independent, objective assurance and consulting within FTA. The role assesses internal controls, risk management activities, and financial records, while recommending improvements and ensuring compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Audit Management

  • Lead development and implementation of risk‑based audit strategy and annual plan.

  • Plan and undertake audits to assess controls, efficiency, and compliance.

  • Drive operational improvements and enhance internal controls.

  • Direct compliance with internal controls and correct deficiencies.

  • Support external auditors for corporate compliance.

  • Guide annual audit plan development.

  • Promote ethics and standards across FTA.

  • Oversee preparation of audit systems, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Supervise audit work programmes and review internal controls.

  • Recommend mitigation measures for weaknesses.

  • Liaise with external auditors and follow up on recommendations.

  • Undertake investigations as appropriate.

  • Supervise, train, and develop direct reports.

    Risk Management

  • Coordinate cross‑functional efforts to improve proactive risk management.

  • Oversee FTA’s risk portfolio and identify priority areas.

  • Advise on compliance risks and mitigation activities.

  • Support business units in risk activities.

  • Monitor strategic risk register and implementation of action plans.

  • Assist line managers in identifying inherent risks.

  • Manage third‑party risk consultancy engagements.

  • Coordinate post‑incident reviews.

  • Monitor Risk and Control Self Assessments.

  • Follow up on Board resolutions on risk.

    Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Risk Management, or related field (advantage).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Economics, or related field.

  • CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification.

  • CISA, CIA, or Risk Qualification preferred.

    Experience & Knowledge

  • Minimum 10 years relevant work experience, including 4 years in management.

  • Strong English language skills; French an advantage.

  • Good understanding of tax laws across Africa.

  • Thorough knowledge of NGO financial reporting standards.

  • Familiarity with financial controls, systems, and accounting regulations.

  • Knowledge of donor reporting requirements.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills.

  • Influencing and negotiating ability.

  • Cooperative team player with problem‑solving skills.

  • Ability to work across cultures
