Job Description

  • Manage the day-to-day financial operations of the company

  • Oversee administration department employees, including financial assistants, clerks and accountants

  • Liaise with outside services for tax preparation, auditing, banking, investments, and other financial needs as necessary. Renew and replace outside services as and when necessary

  • Track the company's financial status and performance to identify areas for improvement

  • Seek out methods for minimising financial risk to the company

  • Research and analyse financial reports and market trends

  • Provide insightful information and expectations to senior executives to aid in long-term and short-term decision making

  • Review financial data and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports

  • Present financial reports to board members, stakeholders, executives, and clients in formal meetings

  • Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software to be used for financial purposes

  • Assist with implementation and optimisation of the company’s existing financial and manufacturing software

  • Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company

  • Understand and adhere to financial regulations and legislation.

    Oversee the following Cost Accounting functions:

  • Planning, studying and collection of data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labour.

  • Analysis of changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to
    determine the effects on cost

  • Analysis of actual manufacturing costs and preparation of periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs

  • Records of cost information for use in controlling expenditures

  • Estimates of new and proposed product costs
    Ordering of key raw materials on the principal of just enough just in time

  • Preparation of management reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.

  • Maintenance of Cost and Manufacturing Accounting System

  • Month end Stock counts and close of the General Ledger

  • Regular physical inventory checks

  • Reconciliation of finished goods inventories

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified chartered accountant SA;
    several years of experience in a finance role in a manufacturing environment;

  • superior mathematical skills;

  • leadership skills and experience;
    employee management;

  • solid communication skills, both written and verbal;

  • public speaking skills;

  • deep understanding of business principles and practices;

  • superior attention to detail;

  • organisational, planning skills, research, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Sage Products (such as Pastel Evolution) and preferably a manufacturing resource programme (e.g. Xperdite);

  • Ability to negotiate with suppliers and service providers at all levels

  • multi-tasking abilities;

  • integrity and honesty
