Objective

  • The objective of this post is to ensure deployment of a high caliber Senior MCH researcher/ expert who will contribute to the success of the “data to action project” aims to determine the root causes of child death and stillbirth Ethiopia.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    On research leadership

  • The Senior MCH researcher/expert will serves as CHAMPS focal person at EPHI and coordinate all data to action project activities (prepare Annual Work Plan, monitoring and follow-up of the project implementation, project report preparation and submission to the donors.)

  • Demonstrate research leadership skill locally or internationally

  • Articulate and devise national research strategies, research questions and action plans

  • Lead research programs of the CHAMPS project (review CHAMPS data as it reaches to EPHI, and Work with different data and evidence sources (SIP and other NDMC data) to understand child mortality in Ethiopia and to make sure the health system addresses national targets

  • Analysis and triangulation of data’s to generate the required evidence (CHAMPS and other EPHI data analyzed, interpreted and presented by different data presenting tools.

  • Perform other assigned activities as necessary

    On research technical skill/advisory

  • Design different types of research programs, research proposals and protocols,

  • Conduct and advise in-depth analysis of big epidemiologic data, surveillance data, evaluation data, biomedical data and any health related operational studies

  • Produce policy relevant findings from rigorous systematic reviews, in-depth analysis of studies etc.

  • Understand local and international research ethics

  • Provide substantial contribution in the scientific advisory committee, research technical working groups and others

  • Use statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, EPIINFO or R etc for analyzing research data.

    On translating evidence to policy

  • Work in collaboration with CHAMPS site to analyze and interpret CHAMPS data on Child mortality and strong
    evidence will be produced.

  • Support to enable project staffs (Epidemiologist and data manager) to conduct integrated data analysis of CHAMPS data and other child mortality data archived at EPHI.

  • Provide technical support to data analytic visualization team on epidemiological data management and analyses techniques, tools, methods and in setting indicators for evidence generation and visualization platforms

  • Identify evidence demands and supplies of the ministry

  • Assess the quality of different sources of evidence to facilitate health policy decision

  • Produces and submit evidence briefs and policy briefs on child cause of death in Ethiopia using CHAMPS findings.

  • Coordinate evidence to policy translation forums and dialogues

  • Presenting CHAMPS results and policy documents for different scientific and media outlets

  • Develop evidence use tracking mechanisms at national and regional levels

    On coordination, collaboration and networking

  • Site visit the CHAMPS site periodically to deploy functioning electronic data sharing system (ReDCap) between EPHI and CHAMPS and to identify areas of support or offer expert advice to CHAMPS site staffs

  • Lead national and international research conferences: Facilitate DeCoDe panels at EPHI & Participate and contributes in the DeCoDe panels prepared by the CHAMPS site and contributes to other CHAMPS project site meetings.

  • Facilitate experience sharing from other CHAMPS network member through peer-to-peer visit to Mozambique

  • Work jointly to arrange the engagement of FETP masters students in CHAMPS Ethiopia to work their thesis work on reportable diseases and beyond.

  • Lead and oversee the CHAMPS Ethiopia advocacy and promotion activities based on the evidences produced to maximize evidence use by the ministry and other stakeholders

  • Work closely with All CHAMPS hired staffs to support EPHI’s work to make policy and program recommendations based on the data.
