Job Description

Background

Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is an exciting and dynamic autonomous federal government institute having its own legal personality as the main government body in charge of three main tasks as expressed in the regulation number 301/2013.

The institute is mandated to conduct researches and technology transfer in public health issue; provide referral service for diagnostic and analytical tests; support the capacity building of health and food science laboratories at the national level for quality laboratory services; leads the public health emergency management of the country; and conduct researches in traditional medicine.

The Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) division focuses on disease outbreaks, nutritional emergencies, and health consequences of natural and manmade disasters.

PHEM mainly emphasizes on early and timely detection, risk communication and control of epidemics and other public health threats, reduction in morbidity, mortality as well as case fatality rate of epidemic diseases to cope with existing, emerging and re-emerging epidemics, natural disasters of national and international concerns.

Roles and Responsibility:

  • Coordinate/ carry out IEC/BCC tasks
    Facilitate all health related implementations in public health emergency sites;
  • Prepare brochures, leaflets and audio visual materials for both health workers and community
  • Prepare training material, guidelines, protocols and manuals for public health priority diseases;
  • Organize and give short term trainings to regions and other health workers;
  • Conduct drills, simulation exercises, table top exercises as required by engaging relevant sectors at national and regional level
  • Prepare, coordinate and facilitate different national meetings accordingly
  • Mobilize and secure resources required for the trainings, emergency response, supervisions;
  • Participate in development of documents/proposals as required;
  • Prepare weekly feedback and weekly bulletin
  • Submit timely reports as required;
  • Prepare and share national guidelines;
  • Provide technical support to different parties as necessary;
  • Working under stress condition with additional extra time accordingly (volunteer to work on frequent field travel in all over the country if needed);
  • Be on call at Emergency operating center (EOC) and any time accordingly if outbreak occur in the country;
  • Technical field support and report preparing to the team leader and directorate after each field work
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Supervisors;
  • directing, coordinating and administering medical and non-medical resources, facilities and services
  • developing services and implementing changes and managing budgets
  • dealing with complaints or problems and ensuring services meet national standards
  • Coordinating activities related to health system strengthening

    Job Requirements

  • Qualification: MSc in Health Education and promotion, MSc. In Health service management

  • Minimum Experience: Four (4) years

  • Required Number: Six(6)

    Job Requirement:

  • Effective in communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills are necessary
  • Ability to meet deadlines; work independently and cooperatively with team members
  • Excellent communication skills, preferably with some experience or exposure to developing and writing proposals
  • Ability and willingness to travel to rural locations and live in sometimes basic conditions
  • Statistical tools like SPSS, EPI info literate, analytical skill, communication skill
