Job Description

Under the direct supervision and the technical support from the National Guinea worm team, regional guinea worm disease eradication coordinator will perform coordinate both human and animal surveillance, interventional (abating, copepod test, IEC/BCC) and capacity building activities.

The regional Guinea worm disease eradication coordinator deliver full dedicated support to an ongoing guinea worm eradication program activity in Gambella region

Roles and Responsibility:

Coordinate both animal and human surveillance of guinea worm on level I and II of Gambella region

Conduct active case search in all kebeles and villages and investigate all rumors within 24 hours of notification

Coordinate Mapping of potential water sources (ponds) which will facilitate Guinea Worm Disease (GWD) transmission in the community

Supervise abating of ponds by recommended chemicals to prevent exposure to GWD of the community

Monitor copepod (where the primary life cycle of Guinea worm begins) testing

Organize and give short term trainings to regions and other health workers

Monitor and awareness creation on Cash reward and community awareness

Sensitize health workers

and integrate Guinea Worm Disease (GWD) active case search with another program

Improve the awareness of the community on GWD and cash reward through providing house to house health education and using medias and different promotional materials

Prepare technical field report

Provide training to health workers and increase rumor reporting from health facilities

Working under stress condition with additional extra time accordingly

Frequent field travel

Employment Type: Contractual (One year with possibility of extension)

Job Requirements

Qualification:

MPH in field epidemiology/ Environmental Health/General MPH with a minimum of Four (4) years’ experience

Knowledge of local language is Preferable .

Experience in public health emergency management (PHEM) or guinea worm disease eradication is a plus

Effective in communication, multi-tasking, organizational and prioritization skill

Ability to meet deadlines; work independently and cooperatively with team members
