  • Ethiopian Public Health institute needs to employ in the following positions on contract bases.

  • Joining the COVID-19 response, World Bank and MOH have been supporting emergency response for the Regional and National Emergency operational Centre (EOC) to enhance the impact, reach and efficiency of responses through the integration and coordination of risk communication, Surveillance, case management, mental health, special need, Point of entry, logistics & EOC activities and approaches in strong collaboration with the health team, IM, and under the guidance of EOC each pillar chief.

  • COVID-19 infection and maintaining the continuum of essential services of EOC through strengthening coordination and technical support at the national and regional level by deployment of technical assistance (TA).

  • EPHI will deploy TAs who will be supporting the Federal Ministry of health/Ethiopian Public Health Institute at national level and regional level at region EOC.

  • The TAs also will link with the Regional Health Bureau Country office and regional office staffs, and their respective Regional health bureaus and to regularly update on the regional level response and gaps in the areas of COVID-19, as per assigned and provide information and technical support when necessary.

    Job Background

  • The Specimen collection, handling and transportation activity is one of the most important elements of the pre analytical process.

  • Precisely following the correct procedures in the specimen collection, transportation and handling stage will guarantee the trace-ability of the sample and assure the quality of results.

  • Therefore; there is a requirement in competent specimen collectors to handle specimen management activities for timely and accurate SARS-COV-2 laboratory examinations.

  • The purpose of COVID 19 sample collector is organizing the sample collection activities, collect Oropharengial,Nasopharangial, and other types of specimen for SARS- Cov-2 laboratory diagnosis; handle, transport and store specimens and insure the specimens are received by the right person

    Duties and responsibilities

  • Receive authorized and complete requests for SARS-COV-2 screening and diagnosis

  • Organize and disinfect working areas to ensure the safety of the client, staff and community

  • Prepare or customize the standard Operating procedure (SOP) for specimen collection, handling, transportation
    and storage

  • Insure the availability of required supplies and recording formats for specimen collection, transportation and handling

  • Wear proper PPE before specimen collection.
    Properly Orient the client the what to do and how to do it

  • Follow the national SARS-COV-2 labeling system and collect the required specimen according to the SOP log book

  • Store the collected specimen according to SARS-COV-2 specimen storage guideline until they are sent to testing areas

  • Transport specimens according to SARS-COV-2 specimen transportation guideline

  • Monitor the temperature and cleanliness of the sample collection areas

  • Maintain the SARS-COV-2 safety protocol in all activities

  • Periodically report the activity performedto EPHI COVID 19 Laboratory Coordinaton

    Job Requirements

    Education Level

  • BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology/BSC Nurse/ Health Officer

    Work experience

  • Two years of relevant work experience

  • Previously Working on SARS-COV-2 sample collection is advantageous

    Skills/competency

  • Specimen collection and handling of specimen

  • able to communicate effectively in all activities involved

  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner

  • able to multitask, prioritize and schedule tasks and activities

  • attention to detail - able to produce accurate and high quality work through concern for all areas involved

  • able to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
