  • Under the direct supervision and technical support of Regional guinea worm coordinator; Animal health officer will perform animal guinea worm surveillance, active case search, outbreak investigation, rumor verification and other related activities.

    Roles and responsibilities

  • Conduct animal surveillance and response activities

  • Strength animal health surveillance through community based Village based volunteers (VBV)

  • Conduct active case search for guinea worm disease

  • Monitor the health of domestic animals (dogs and cats) including proactively tethered animals and provide suitable treatment

  • Supervise and carryout animal health activities

  • Conduct supportive supervision at each respective villages and kebeles

  • Facilitate and conduct dog census biannually in hot spot areas

  • Ensure tethering of all legible dogs and cats in high risk areas

  • Ensure the tethering of all suspected dogs/animals getting food and medical care as needed

  • Working under stress condition with additional extra time accordingly

  • Prepare monthly and weekly report and submit to Woreda health office and Guinea worm regional coordinator

  • Ensure that every animals welfare under the program are kept well

  • Creating community awareness regarding animal guinea worm infection and other zoonotic diseases

  • Investigate any animal health related diseases/conditions and report to the responsible body

  • Participate on periodic animal vaccination calendar with whenever needed by the agriculture sector

  • Ensure the safety of the animal waste disposal and management of the community

  • Prepare field visit reports and feedbacks and submit to the relevant body

  • Work in closely with other organizations(EPHI,TCCE,WHO and others) who are working on Guinea worm disease eradication

  • Frequent field work at kebele and village level

    Job Requirements

  • BSc degree in Animal health science with a minimum of four (4)years’ working experience.

  • Ability to write high quality reports and working ability in a team under difficult situation

  • Ability of local language (Agnua)
