Job Purpose

  • The purpose of the job is to plan, organize, direct and control the overall financial activities of the division; maintain proper books of accounts and records of all financial and accounting transactions in line with the Association’s financial policy and procedure;

  • ensue timely recording of transactions and ascertain their accuracy of financial and accounting documents;

  • prepare interim and annual financial statements; ensures funds are disbursed/transferred as per Association’s and Donors’ policies and procedures;

  • manage grant management activities and maintain proper recording and reporting as per the terms and conditions of the grants;

  • Lead, manage, coaches and mentors his/her team under his/her direct supervision; and produces periodic reports of the Division.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs and controls the overall activities of the finance division.

  • Formulates coherent strategies, policies, procedures, manuals relevant to the financial and accounting operation and recommends to management.

  • Maintains proper books of accounts and records of all financial and accounting transactions in line with the Association’s financial policy and procedure; ensue timely recording of transactions and ascertain their accuracy of financial and accounting documents.

  • Ensures funds are disbursed/transferred as per Association’s and Donors’ policies and procedures; defines and monitors the management of cash flow and related financial management activities.

  • Manages grants and maintain proper recording and reporting as per the terms and conditions of the grants.

  • Ensures that deposit of collections and disbursements of funds are made timely and in accordance with recognized practices as stated in the Financial/Accounting Policy and Procedures manual of the Associations.

  • Authorize various payments in accordance with approved budget and directives given by the authorities/as stated in the financial and other relevant manuals.

  • Designs and uses sound internal financial control system to safe guard assets, records and documents of the
    Association.

  • Prepares and reviews annual budget, and analyze variance in the budget along with narrative description of budgetary implementation.

  • Analyzes financial statements and advises their implication together with possible course of action.

  • Supports and works with the concerned units to increase income generated from internal and external sources.

  • Effects staff monthly salary and benefits, travel related expenses and allowances and other payments and maintain proper accounting recordings and documentations.

  • Ensures settlement of Government taxes and pension contributions.

  • Leads, manages, coaches and mentors his/her team under his/her direct supervision.

  • Prepare periodic financial statements and activity reports

  • Performs other related duties as directed by the immediate supervisor.

    Job Requirements

    Specification

  • MA/MBA/ACCA in Accounting/ Finance with 6 years of relevant experience, of which 2 years in supervisory role OR BA in Accounting/Accounting and Finance related with 8 years of relevant experience, of which 3 years in supervisory role

    Additional requirement

  • Proven experience as a Financial Manager

  • Experience in the NGO sector with previous possible roles such as financial analyst

  • Strong Excel and accounting software skill (Quick book and Peachtree)

  • Excellent ability to problem solving along with sold analytical skills,

  • Comfortable interacting with all levels of management in multiple areas.

  • Strong knowledge of donor grant management and financial reporting.

  • Ability to review data and make relevant management decisions.

  • Strong financial system and business administration understanding.

  • Enough knowledge in IPSAS implementation.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

  • Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used.

  • A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles
