About the Organization

  • The Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRCO) is an independent, non-political, non-partisan human rights civil society organization established in 1991 to contribute towards rule of law, democracy and respect for human rights in Ethiopia.

  • EHRCO is one of the oldest and most prominent human rights CSOs in the country, widely known for monitoring and investigating human rights violations in Ethiopia.

  • EHRCO seeks to hire qualified professional dedicated to the cause of human rights in Ethiopia in the following position:

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    The Executive Director is in charge of the day-to-day activities of the organization and is responsible among other things for:

  • Supervising and coordinating the operations of head office, branch offices and other administrative organs;

  • Directing, supervising and ensuring implementation of core program activities of EHRCO, including human rights monitoring and investigation; human rights research, education and advocacy; legal aid, and prison and court monitoring;

  • Soliciting, and mobilizing resources from the public, organizations and individuals through innovative and effective fundraising initiatives;

  • Establishing close links and partnerships with the relevant, governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental stakeholders, the media, the private sector and academia and

  • Leading the formulation, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of strategic and annual plans
    of the organization
    who can guide on knowledge for online and digital human rights activism

  • Formulating other organizational policy programs and activities.

    Job Requirements

    Key Requirements

  • LL.B/LL.M degree in Law, BA/MA in political Science, Humanities, Psychology, Sociology or Social Science and 10+ years’ experience in program/project management in a human rights organization or in similar human rights CSOs,
    High proficiency in written and spoken English (knowledge of other local languages would be an asset); (Computer and internet literacy, knowledge on online and digital activism;
    Age 35-65;

  • An individual who has not been convicted of crime related to or involving violation of human rights, including gender-based violence and

  • No membership in any political party.
