Position Summary

Equality Now is seeking a Global Individual & Major Giving Lead with strong major gifts experience and a proven track-record of securing commitments at the 6- and 7-figure levels from high-net-worth individuals and family foundations.

This position plays a leadership role in the Development Department and is responsible for defining our individual and major gifts strategy and driving this strategy forward in partnership with senior leaders across the organization, including the Global Director of Development, the Global Executive Director and Equality Now’s Board and Advisory Board Members

This position reports to the Global Director of Development and oversees two Development Officers, one focused on events and mid-level gifts, the other on direct marketing and grassroots giving.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage strategy for Equality Now’s individual and major gifts program, which will have a total value of $2-$2.5 million in 2023, including setting individual giving and major gift goals.

  • Build strong relationships with major donors and prospects to understand their interests, identify opportunities for them to engage in Equality Now’s work (beyond just giving), and develop regular strategic touchpoints to drive those relationships forward, and accurately track moves in the donor database (NXT Raiser’s Edge).

  • Solicit both existing and prospective major donors for Equality Now to grow our major gifts portfolio (primarily made up of individuals and family foundations) capable of giving $25,000 to $1 million, collaborating with colleagues to frame the best and most compelling ask in alignment with organizational priorities

  • Draft strong, inspirational donor materials–including letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports–and “ghost write” donor correspondence for organizational leadership, as needed.

  • “Manage Up” to the Global Director of Development and Global Executive Director, directing and supporting their donor actions to ensure that we are maximising their role in major gifts fundraising in an efficient, effective way;

  • Oversee the broader individual giving program, including the development and management of systems and processes to ensure timely gift processing, documentation and acknowledgement, and ensuring that the team is fully leveraging the donor database
    (NXT Raiser’s Edge) for moves management and revenue tracking.

  • Provide day-to-day management, guidance and mentorship to two Development Officers who focus on events, mid-level giving and donor communications, including direct marketing.

  • Partner with the Global Director of Development in providing strategic leadership for the Development Department.

  • Coordinate Board and Advisory Board members engagement in fundraising, partnering with its members to engage their networks and staffing/supporting Board members’ prospect engagement efforts

  • Develop a robust network of programmatic, finance, communications, and philanthropy colleagues to achieve all required outcomes.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Required:

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, with at least 3 years’ experience in securing and growing support from high-capacity individuals, partnering with senior leaders to execute strategies at the highest level;

  • A proven track record of closing gifts of $100,000 or more;

  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills;

  • Leadership experience – including experience managing and mentoring staff and inspiring teams;

  • Experience partnering with organisational and volunteer leaders, including Trustees, on donor outreach;

  • Entrepreneurial, results-oriented, able to set priorities;

  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills;

  • Advanced interpersonal skills, able to work effectively and respectfully in a fast-paced environment with diverse co-workers and with colleagues internationally;

  • Experience with donor databases and moves management;

  • Ability to travel when needed;

  • Sense of humour; and

  • Bachelor's degree required.

    Desirable

  • Experience in closing gifts of up to $1 million and multi-year commitments;

  • Cross-cultural/international experience;

  • Master’s Degree and/or CFRE; and

  • Some prior knowledge of or experience in the human rights sector.
