Job Summary:

The Community SRH Promotor under the supervision of the Program Officer will be responsible for the overall community engagement, awareness raising/demand creation activities at the selected IDP sites, focusing on SRHR including Maternal Health (Safe Motherhood), Abortion Care, Family Planning, and SGBV.

The Community SRH Promotor will be primarily responsible for ensuring the achievement of specific project deliverables and targets related to the above-mentioned SRHR services in selected IDP camps.

The Community SRH Promotor is expected to oversee and carryout structured awareness raising and demand creation activities through different approaches by working with potential partners; ensure the establishment of structured

He /She will be responsible for organizing and facilitating trainings to community level volunteer health promotors including TBAs, Community level influential people, religious leaders and selected youth representatives.

Detail Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that necessary Minimal Initial Service Package (MISP) for RH, an interagency and WHO approved standard is integrated into the SRH/health activities at community level.
  • The MISP includes prevention of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity through provision of clean delivery kits, promoting healthy pregnancy, skilled delivery, referrals to existing quality emergency obstetric care (BEmONC) services, Post Abortion Care and Family planning services, prevention and management of sexual violence, and planning and promoting comprehensive SRH services.
  • Closely works with the formed community level committee and Islamic Affairs Supreme Council (IASC) regarding community engagement activities; support and oversee home visits, community dialogues, campaigns and other activities focusing on SRHR
    With an aim of improved demand creation and utilization of services provided by the mobile team, the promotor closely works with the team and nearby health posts for advance preparations.
  • Collects data on key SRH indicators such as maternal mortality ratios, contraceptive prevalence rates, GBV data, and others as needed.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with the health facilities/cluster, local SRH working
    groups, and local health authorities and community members on all aspects of community level intervention and data collection
    Works with the supervisor regarding obtaining necessary RH kits that will be distributed to community.
  • Ensures the male engagement approach for SRHR is working at community level and support the cascade of the demand creation activities through them.
  • By working with the program officer, responsible for planning and monitoring all community level activities; and report timely
  • Encourages good practice by promoting and championing the child protection policy and procedures and respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns which relate to the well-being of a child or vulnerable person.

    Job Requirements

    Education and Experience:

  • Diploma Nurse/Midwife/Public Health with minimum of three-years’ work experience.
  • Experience in SRHR service delivery and community level demand creation activities preferably in NGO.
  • Experience on working in humanitarian and emergency health response programs.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, teamwork, collaborating, and consensus-building skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time out of the station to support the implementation of the community based project activities in the selected IDP camps/sites with and ability to operate/ride motor bikes are strongly considered
  • Applicants from the local area and who knows the context are highly considered for this position
  • Demonstrable experience of working effectively safeguarding children and vulnerable populations.

  • Communication Skills: Well developed written and oral communication skills particularly Somali language.
