EnCompass LLC is currently seeking a Gender Specialist candidate for an anticipated USAID-funded Mission Program Cycle Support (MPCS) opportunity for USAID/Kenya and East Africa (KEA).

The USAID/KEA MPCS activity will provide USAID staff, implementing partners and local stakeholders with support in designing and implementing quantitative and qualitative evaluation studies and assessments across multiple sectors.

This may also include knowledge management support, developing/delivering evaluation and assessment trainings, and capacity building of local monitoring and evaluation (M&E) specialists.

This position will be based in East Africa, with a very strong preference for Nairobi, Kenya. It is anticipated that Somalia will also be a key recipient of support for this activity.

The broader East African region - including but not limited to Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda – may also be recipients of technical assistance under this award.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Gender Specialist will provide gender expertise to technical assistance activities, which may include conducting gender analysis and assessments;
  • supporting monitoring and evaluation; preparing high quality reports and technical resources;
  • conducting field work; and designing and facilitating face-to-face and virtual trainings related to gender equality and female empowerment.

    Position Requirements

    Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in international development, organizational development, social science, or a related field preferred
  • No less than five years of demonstrated experience in gender analysis, gender integration, and/or gender-based violence, with preference for work on USG-funded activities

    Experience and Skills
  • Demonstrated experience applying a variety of participatory
    and strengths-based learning design and delivery approaches, blended learning and evidence-based learning theory desirable but not required
  • Though not required, preference may be given to native Kenyans or those native to a country within the region
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required; fluency and/or familiarity with Swahili and/or other regional languages greatly valued
