Introduction

Livelihoods Improvement for Women and Youth (LI-WAY) is a five-year programme implemented by a consortium of partners composed of SNV Netherlands Development Organisation (lead), Mercy Corps, Techno Serve and Save the Children with the financial support from Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.

Currently LI-WAY identified four sectors which are implemented by each consortium partners. Accordingly, SNV leads on Micro Enterprise (ME), Mercy Corps leads on Labour, Techno Serve leads on Growth Sector and Save the Children leads on skill development.

Skills development is a cross-cutting market, affecting micro-enterprise, labour, and growth sectors. Based on market for the poor (M4P) approach, LI-WAY conducted skill sector study and identified the major skill development constraints and designed interventions.

Thus in order to pilot the proposed intervention, LI-WAY identified four partners to work with.

Accordingly, LI-WAY is working with four selected TVETs (Kirkos Manufacturing College, Misraq polytechnique college, Selam Children’ village TVET and EMD construction works finishing and technology science college) in Addis Ababa to address the identified constraints, with the expected outcomes of improving the skills of the target group and to enable them to get better jobs or start their own micro-enterprises.
