Position:

  • Interviewer with translation and analytical skills for the consular section (local staff)

    Job Description

  • Under the supervision of the consul, you must work in team with other consular staff and the visa officer.
  • Carry out interviews with migrants who apply for a visa for family reunification.
  • To send periodically reports
  • To carry out the interview according a certain methodology, after having informed
    the migrant of the procedure and the objectives.
  • To ask the questions in accordance with the provided instructions to obtain various
    specified information.
  • To write down the interview, using computer or specified form, and have it validated.
    The data obtained from interview will be verified for completeness and accuracy.
  • To prepare the file for the interview.
  • To prepare the planning of the interviews and the correspondence with the migrant.
  • To identify and report problems in obtaining valid information and collect and analyze data.
  • The interviewer will only carry out the interview, and will not be involved in the
    decision-making.
  • The interviewer has to be loyal and reliable, with respect for the data protection.

    Required Competences

  • Excellent command of English both written and oral skills, French if possible.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent translation and interpretation skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication and presentational skills.
  • A capacity for analysis and synthesis.
  • To be familiar with working with a laptop/desktop computer and have respect for the deontology and data protection.
  • Good IT knowledge (Microsoft office and excel).
  • Great flexibility to work on
    different subjects, within different teams.
  • Sociability and a sense for initiative.
    Optional Competences
  • A knowledge of the local languages and culture of Somalia and Eritrea is a plus.
  • To have a deep interest in working with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • To be social, dynamic and discrete in the same time.
  • Stress resistance.
  • The interviewer should have no criminal records.

    Practical Details:

  • Gross monthly salary: 275,000 KES
  • 1 year contract (renewable)
  • No allowances for housing costs or holiday transportation
  • Working permit is needed
  • Selection procedure:
  • After a pre-screening based on resume and cover letter, the main selection procedure
    will be carried out in three rounds. A first oral test.
  • A second written test gauges the
    candidate’s translation capabilities. A third test is an interview which evaluates the
    applicant’s interpretation skills and general qualifications.
