Job summary

  • The IT Officer will support the overall information technology infrastructure for EGPAF Uganda office including planning, implementation and support of the software applications and hardware infrastructure that run operations. The Officer will be involved in systems administration including: general computer support; upgrades; software installations; license management; server maintenance support; deployment of equipment and end user support. He/she will be in charge of providing user training on common business applications and use of EGPAF ICT systems. The officer will also enforce adherence to EGPAF’s laid down standards and policies on ICT.

  • The Officer may also be responsible for managing or contributing to various IT projects. This may include: assessment of Applications and technology; formulating and presenting solution options to the Country leadership; advising on the equipment or software selection process; overseeing implementation of EGPAF ICT systems and supporting key project deliverables that may involve working with external partners.

    Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide software and system troubleshooting and support.

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and update operating systems and user applications.

  • Proactively schedule software upgrades and patching.

  • Ensure that, all software on EGPAF equipment is licensed and keep record of licenses.

  • Track license and support contracts to include notification of renewal timeframe to ICT management.

  • Monitor network to ensure functionality and availability to all system users of networked services including building access control and related security systems, and telephone intercom.

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cabled, wireless and other network infrastructure.

  • Support existing/new server/s and administer access rights for all users in the Uganda office.

  • Maintain local and server based anti-virus software.

  • Inform and train users and management on how to adhere to EGPAF global and local security ICT policies.

  • Ensure computer is set up prior to new hire start date and any related moves.

  • Handle the relocation of computer equipment as a result of office or personnel changes.

  • Setup new user accounts and email accounts (in collaboration with ICT Support – Head Office – DC).

  • Troubleshoot, and repair user accounts and email accounts, assist in resetting passwords. (In collaboration with ICT Support – Head Office – DC).

  • Participation in research and recommendation of
    improved infrastructure processes and technologies to include growth planning.

  • Work with service providers to schedule repairs and maintenance.

  • Work with ISP and other service providers to schedule repairs and maintenance of IT equipment at EGPAF premises and project supported sites.

  • Train new and current employees on computer software and ICT systems.

  • Maintaining documentation of processes, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Monitor and report ICT expenses.

  • Provide basic preventive maintenance for IT hardware and related accessories.

  • Take custody of all IT related hardware and accessories including mobile and landline telephones.

  • Work with appointed mobile telephone company in ensuring that staff get their monthly airtime and data bundles uploaded in time

  • Support any other relevant IT work as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

    Required qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • A degree in Computer Science/ Information Systems / with at least 5 years’ relevant work experience in similar field.

  • Ability to Manage the entire spectrum of information technology operations specially LAN/WAN/VSAT/Wireless technologies, Cisco Switches & Routers, Firewall, VPN, DNS, DHCP, etc.

  • Extensive practical experience in networked environment and support for remote users and field offices.

  • Extensive ability to use and support standard micro computing applications such as Microsoft OFFICE SUITE.

  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, support, and implement technical solutions at all levels.

  • Familiarity with emerging technology trends

  • Experience in supporting web-based applications.

  • Relevant professional certifications will be an added advantage

  • Knowledge of supporting Windows client and server operating systems.

  • Prior experience with Messaging systems support, e.g. MS Exchange

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written.

  • Strong supervisory skills

  • Strong computer literacy

  • A quick Learner.
