EGPAF NGO Project Officer - Lab Jobs in Kenya

To support establishment, expansion and access to quality HIV laboratory services especially improved access to laboratory diagnosis and monitoring through CD4 and viral load testing, TB diagnosis and Early Infant Diagnosis to support provision of quality integrated HIV prevention, HIV counselling and testing, care and treatment services within the EGPAF supported facilities in the supported counties


Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory needs assessments (including suggested training and equipment procurement in liaison with the Supply Chain Management System)
  • Conduct assessments of the supported labs during each visit to determine capacity, quality control, quality assurance and progress to accreditation
  • Laboratory capacity building and technical assistance involving training on equipment techniques, didactic trainings, follow up review of information and techniques learned during training and site activation, reagent forecasting, quantification, procurement and reporting , laboratory flow, specimen tracking and equipment maintenance
  • Facilitate and optimize training in EID, TB and CD4, sample collection and transport to laboratories performing the test, track results and ensure that these get back to the patients in a timely manner
  • Assist points of service to troubleshoot in all problems within the lab and liaise with SCMLT, SCHMT and external labs for proficiency testing for QA/QC and follow up with remedial action plans
  • Participate in all stakeholder meetings at sub county and county levels
  • Network with other laboratory managers to keep up to date with the latest and most current updates and laboratory techniques for quality patient management
  • Assist the Program/MOH staff in writing the site specific Standard Operating Procedures
    (SOPs), according to Good Laboratory Practices and to best standards.
  • Liaise with the various SCMLTs in order to improve delivery of lab services for HIV care including EID, PCR tests, CD4 tests, Haematological tests and Biochemistry tests

    Required Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma in Laboratory training with at least 3 years of laboratory work experience
  • Diploma in laboratory training with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory work experience
  • Registered with KMLTTB

    Required skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in relevant computer packages for generating and analyzing reports
  • Working knowledge of USG funded programs and reporting requirements
  • Documented evidence of HIV/AIDS laboratory training as part on continuing professional development
  • Dedicated team player with excellent interpersonal, communication, report writing and analytical skills
  • Takes initiative and able to work without supervision in a dynamic multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism and high ethical standards
  • High level of integrity
