Economic Commission for Africa Social Affairs Officer Jobs in Ethiopia;The Social Affairs Officer will support the Sustainable Development and Integrated Planning Section (SDIPS) of the Macroeconomics and Governance Division (MGD).

The role contributes to accelerating economic transformation and inclusive growth through sustainable development, integrated planning, and urban development initiatives.

Responsibilities

Social Analysis

Participate in analysis of sustainable development, development planning, and urban development issues at global, regional, national, and sub‑national levels

Undertake empirical research and analysis of trends and related policy issues

Develop indicators and methodologies for review and evaluation of sustainable development and integrated planning

Liaise with government officials, UN system representatives, and partners on policy issues

Assist in planning and servicing expert group meetings and drafting reports

Represent the Division at international meetings and consultations

Prepare written outputs including reports, studies, background papers, and briefings

Intergovernmental Support

Prepare inputs for reports to intergovernmental bodies

Follow intergovernmental meetings and draft summary reports

Assist in organizing panels and round tables on sustainable development issues

Technical Cooperation

Organize training seminars for national experts

Prepare documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects

Contribute to preparation of material for approval of regional, country, or sector projects

Monitor and assess implementation of technical cooperation programmes

Participate in fact‑finding and advisory missions

Support mobilization of resources for ECA engagement in sustainable development and integrated planning

General

Provide guidance to and supervise junior staff

Perform administrative tasks necessary for delivery of services

Undertake training activities internally and externally

Collect and analyze data to identify trends and provide insights using data visualization methods

development, sustainable development, and urban planning. Analytical capacity, sound judgment, and ability to integrate diverse information sources.

Qualifications

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in International Development, Development Planning, Urban Planning, Economics, Sociology, or related field (required)

First‑level degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted

Training in data analytics, business analytics, or data science (advantageous)

Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience in development planning, urban development, sustainable development, socio‑economic development, or related areas (required)

Experience in quantitative analysis and research in sustainable development or urban planning (desirable)

Experience in developing countries (desirable)

Experience supporting delivery of technical assistance to member States (desirable)

2+ years’ experience in data analytics (desirable)

Languages

Fluency in English or French (required)

Knowledge of the other language (desirable)

Knowledge of another UN official language (advantageous)
