Org. Setting and Reporting

The Communications Section of the Office of the Executive Secretary(CS/OES) is offering an internship for a period of three months with possible extension of maximum six months. Interns work five days per week (35 Hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

The UNECA is mandated to promote the economic and social development of its member States, foster intra-regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa's development.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • As part of its ongoing functions, the Communication Section needs the service of an Intern to support the accomplishment of the related tasks, including generating related write-ups and story lines.
  • He/She will also support media relation functions related to press conferences and media advisories such as:
  • Monitoring media reports (local and international) of ECA events and prepare coverage reports,
  • Build and maintain media contact databases,
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating ECA media events such as press conferences/briefings, workshops,
  • Assist in preparation and distribution of press kits,
  • Assist with media interview requests, and handle other media related inquiries
  • Disseminate press releases, speeches and conference related documents to media,
  • Assist with Ethiopian government media clearance process of international media
  • Assist in organizing guided tours of ECA,
  • Assist the Web team in the packaging of CDs, flash disks for major ECA publications and events.
  • Supporting the production of audiovisual multimedia content;
  • Assisting in other ad-hoc activities as instructed.

    Education

    To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

    Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or
    higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum
    Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
    • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
    • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.


    Work Experience

  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in either language is required; and knowledge of the other is desirable.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
