Economic Commission for Africa Geospatial Information Management Job in Ethiopia; The Geospatial information Management Section (GiMS) of the African Centre for Statistics of ECA is seeking for an intern on geospatial information science and technology. The internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the programme. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work for five days per week (35 hours) under overall guidance of the Chief, GiMS and the direct supervision of the Senior geospatial information officers of GiMS and other members of the Section.

[Qualifications/special skills

  • To qualify for this internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

    (a) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level in Geography, Geoinformatics, Environmental Science, Urban Planning or equivalent); or

    (b) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one-year period of graduation.


  • Technical Skills Basic Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) and understanding of geospatial data (e.g., shapefiles, geodatabase, GeoJSON, satellite imagery, etc) and Web Mapping Application will be an added advantage

    Languages

  • English and French are the working Languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of the other is an advantage.
