Economic Commission for Africa Economic Affairs Officer Jobs in Ethiopia ;The Economic Affairs Officer will support the Finance and Domestic Resource Mobilization Section (FDRMS) of the Macroeconomic and Governance Division (MGD).

The role contributes to accelerating economic transformation and inclusive growth through effective development planning, improved macroeconomic management, economic governance, and mobilization of domestic and international public finance.

Responsibilities

Economic or Sector Analysis

Develop socio‑economic databases and qualitative information for assignments

Apply economic and financial intelligence tools to analyze trends and policy impacts

Draft inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on economic development and financial deepening

Identify and analyze policy proposals related to assigned topics

Attend international, regional, and national meetings to collect information and engage with institutions

Assist in organizing expert group meetings and seminars on development issues

Prepare speeches and inputs for senior staff presentations

Intergovernmental Support

Prepare inputs for reports to intergovernmental bodies

Follow intergovernmental meetings and draft summary reports

Assist in organizing panels and round tables on development issues

Technical Cooperation

Support mobilization of resources for non‑recurrent activities and capital market engagement

Participate in missions on development issues

Organize training seminars for national experts

Prepare documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects

Monitor and assess implementation of technical cooperation projects

General

Perform administrative tasks necessary for delivery of services

Undertake training activities internally and externally

Collect and analyze data to identify trends and provide insights using data visualization methods

Qualifications

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, or related field (required)

First‑level degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted

Training in data analytics, business analytics, or data science (advantageous)

Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience in economic and financial research, policy formulation, or related areas (required)

2+ years’ experience in data analytics (desirable)

Experience in structuring and executing debt and equity investments (desirable)

Knowledge of capital market development in developing countries (desirable)

Competence in financial market software (Bloomberg, S&P Global, Reuters) (desirable)

Languages

Fluency in English or French (required)

Knowledge of the other language (desirable)

Knowledge of another UN official language (advantageous)
