Economic Commission for Africa Economic Affairs Officer Jobs in Ethiopia ;The Economic Affairs Officer contributes to UNECA’s mission of delivering ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa, aligned with the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.
The role is located in the Macroeconomic Analysis, Institutions & Economic Governance Section (MIGS) of the Macroeconomics, Finance, Governance and Planning Division (MFGPD).
The officer supports African member States in strengthening macroeconomic management, governance, public finance, and resource mobilization to promote structural transformation and inclusive growth.
Key Responsibilities
Economic or Sector Analysis
Monitor economic developments and identify emerging issues.
Conduct studies in macroeconomic analysis, governance, and development finance.
Apply econometric modelling to policy analysis.
Draft policy recommendations and development strategies.
Organize expert group meetings and seminars.
Prepare speeches and inputs for senior staff.
Intergovernmental Support
Provide substantive support on economic issues to intergovernmental bodies.
Represent the organizational unit at international, regional, and national meetings.
Technical Cooperation
Design and monitor technical cooperation projects.
Undertake missions to member states.
Prepare analyses to advise governments.
Conduct training seminars and workshops.
Formulate evaluation modalities for projects.
General Duties
Support junior staff and review their work.
Participate in inter‑departmental undertakings.
Perform administrative tasks as required.
Collect and analyze macroeconomic, fiscal, and governance data using visualization methods.

Requirements
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Economics or related field required.
First‑level degree with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted.
Completion of data analytics or data science programs is an advantage.
Work Experience
Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in economic research, analysis, policy formulation, or related areas.
Experience in macroeconomic analysis and governance in developing countries desirable.
Proven track record of refereed publications and policy papers desirable.
2+ years of experience in data analytics desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English or French required.
Knowledge of the other desirable.
Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
