Economic Commission for Africa Consultant to support technical coordination Jobs in Ethiopia;
The consultant will coordinate the publication of the Journal of African Transformation, an interdisciplinary, peer‑reviewed journal disseminating high‑quality research on African development issues.

The role involves managing the end‑to‑end publication process, soliciting manuscripts, facilitating peer reviews, and ensuring the journal’s quality and relevance.

Key Responsibilities

Solicit manuscripts and papers for publication.

Perform initial review of submissions to assess publishability.

Ensure journal content meets standards of accuracy, validity, reliability, credibility, readability, and relevance.

Select and assign expert peer reviewers.

Monitor and manage the peer review process.

Submit reviewed articles for Editor‑in‑Chief’s consideration.

Schedule accepted manuscripts for publication.

Liaise with production team on editing, design, layout, and publication.

Collaborate with guest editors, editorial assistants, and support staff.

Attend and contribute to Editorial Board meetings.

Support related initiatives within the Strategic Planning, Oversight and Results Division, including flagship projects and knowledge‑sharing activities.

Requirements

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Economics, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Political Science, Statistics, Development Studies, or related field.

Experience

Minimum 10 years of experience in communication, knowledge management, scholarly publishing, or editorial work.

Experience in academia, research institutions, international organizations, or public service.

Track record of publishing on

African development issues in peer‑reviewed journals, books, or scholarly publications.

Previous journal editing experience is an advantage.

Familiarity with United Nations systems is desirable.

Knowledge & Skills

Broad understanding of African development issues and challenges.

Sound knowledge of Africa‑related strategies and policies of bilateral/multilateral agencies.

Excellent interpersonal and management skills.

Strong planning, execution, and initiative.

Languages

Fluency in English with strong writing and analytical skills required.

Knowledge of French is an advantage.
