Org. Setting and Reporting

The Economic Commission for Africa's (ECA) mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa; informed by the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.

The mission will be guided by ECA's five strategic directions which are: advancing ECA's position as a premier knowledge institution that builds on its unique position and privilege to bring global solutions to the continent's problems and take local solutions to the continent; developing macroeconomic and structural policy options to accelerate economic diversification and job creation; designing and implementing innovative financing models for infrastructure, and for human, physical and social assets for a transforming Africa; contributing solutions to regional and transboundary challenges, with a focus on peace security and social inclusion as an important development nexus; advocating Africa's position at the global level and developing regional responses as a contribution to global governance issues.

These positions are located in the Facilities Management Section (FMS) of the Division of Administration (DoA) at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa at Addis Ababa. The incumbent will work under the general guidance of the Chief of Building Management & Maintenance Unit (BMMU) and direct supervision of the Senior Broadcast and Conference Operator.

Responsibilities

The Broadcast Technology Technician at this level reports to a Senior Broadcast and conference Operation Supervisor. Besides performing general office support functions, the incumbent is primarily responsible for assisting the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, upgrade and management of all specialized broadcast technology and conference systems equipment related systems.

Major duties and responsibilities.
Within delegated authority, the Broadcast Technology Technician may be responsible for the following duties;

• Supports the installation, operation and maintenance of a diverse range of broadcast technology equipment, including, conference systems equipment satellite interconnect system and other associated ancillary systems and support equipment.

• In close cooperation with FMS operations unit, and Communications and Information Technology section, ensures procedures are followed for the operation and maintenance of equipment; ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

• Contributes to technical input to services related to the planning, implementation and maintenance of broadcast technology projects;

• Helps to establish means to monitor television broadcasts in UNECA premises

• Assists in testing and evaluating new products on conference systems technologies.

• Provides support for broadcast technology training and support for technology staff, and other public information staff requiring familiarization in the use of technology, as necessary.

• Performs other
related duties as required

• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.

• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. General training in electronic equipment and their operation is required. Specific Training on operation of audio/video conference system equipment is also highly desirable.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in operating and running of audio/video conference equipment is required.

  • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) year for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Exposure to UN environment is an advantage.

    Languages

  • English and French are the official working languages of the United Nations. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written in English languages is required.
