DRC NGO WASH Officer Kenya Jobs

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a protection of human rights framework, DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. Programmes include protection, livelihoods, food and NFI distribution, water and sanitation, and advocacy amongst others.


There are 4 main programme offices in Somali region, one in Yemen, one in Kenya and one regional office in Nairobi. There are also non-operational region wide initiatives, focusing on advocacy and capacity building, which are supported from the Nairobi regional office. Currently there is over 150 DRC staff in the region.

During 2014, DRC in Dadaab will continue to provide both emergency life-saving assistance and long term development support to existing refugees, new arrivals and the host community through funding from UNHCR, Danida, ECHO and DRC's own funds.

The job holder will assist the implementation of DRC Voluntary Repatriation project component including management of the disbursement of unconditional cash grants and manage the Transit Centers. This position will require extensive travel to refugee camps in Dadaab, Ifo, Dagahaley and Hagadera and close coordination with Return Help Desk staff from UNHCR, RAS, NRC, IRC and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Implementation

  • Ensure maintenance of high standard of cleanliness and hygiene through close supervision of cleaners at all transit centers.
  • Ensure any issues with water scarcity at the transit centers are solved in timely manner.
  • Supervise any repairs or rehabilitation works required at the transit centers.
  • Assess WASH facilities in all transit centers and prepare bill of quantities for any maintenance requirement;
  • Preparation of payment sheets and refer these to the finance department for allocation of the cash per the sheet indicated.
  • Ensure food provided to returnees while at the transit center is of good quality.
  • Ensure the food vendors comply with the Public health standards in food handling and preparation processes
  • Oversee disbursement of unconditional cash grants to the beneficiaries registered in voluntary repartition.
  • Ensure submission of the beneficiary list to the bank institution.
  • Monitor that all documentation is in place; meal sheets, payment vouchers and distribution lists.
  • Participate in the development of concept and proposals for VolRep project.
  • Assigning duties to the VolRep assistance where possible.
  • Ensure coordination of VolRep activities with all stakeholders UNHCR and other partners involved.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Protection team leader.

    Liaison Role/Coordination

  • Represent DRC in cross border coordination meetings.
  • Hold weekly meeting with VolRep assistants and draft minutes.
  • Represent DRC in VolRep task force meeting held at
    Dadaab level.
  • Ensure smooth information between return help desk staff, bank institution staff, refugees and DRC senior management.
  • Prepare minutes of all meetings attended.
  • Contribute to liaison with DRC Dadaab office on the repatriation of Somali refugees.

    Monitoring & Evaluate Activities/ Reporting Responsibilities

  • Ensure documentation for all project activities.
  • Familiarize with appropriate tools to be used for monitoring and reporting on activities.
  • Produce weekly and monthly databases reports.
  • Ensure that PSN monitoring is correctly done.
  • Participate in regular lessons learned feedback sessions with the project team.

    About you

  • Degree in Public Health, Community Development, Social work or related sciences.
    Two years’ experience in this or related field with vast knowledge of refugees and repatriation process.
  • Beneficiary centered with ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Strong report writing skills .
