Financial Manager South Sudan (stationed in Wau)
Employment: 1.0 FTE
Duration: 1 year with possible renewal of contract

Purpose of the position:

The Financial Manager is responsible for the entire financial administration of the field office and projects. The Financial Manager is accountable to the Country Director, while being the financial sparring partner for all staff in the field office and Finance at HQ in the Netherlands.

The Financial Manager will be responsible for:

  • Implementing and maintaining Dorcas financial policies, including overseeing implementation of policies on procurement, cash dealing, HR, etc.;
  • Preparing financial donor reports on project spending in conjunction with HQ in the Netherlands;
  • Playing an important role in developing financial budgets for field office and project proposals;
  • Monitoring budgets of field office and projects to prevent under- and overspending and provide timely and solid input to the Country Director and program staff;
  • Monitoring partner organization’s financial project accounts;
  • Leading the financial team and supervise (project) accountants in their work;
  • Acting as the point person for auditors when field office and/or projects are audited.

    Job Requirements:

  • Minimum BSc degree in financial accounting or other relevant field;
  • At least 5 years of experience in the NGO sector and/or experience with financial monitoring of multiple, simultaneous projects; must be able to solidly maintain a full ‘set of books’;
  • Experience
    in running payroll and basic knowledge about tax and labour law;
  • Computer skills, including excellent Excel skills, ability to work with automated accounting systems;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, knowledge of Arabic is an advantage;
  • Strong analytical, communication, time-management and leadership skills, must be reliable and have high personal integrity;
  • As South Sudan is a challenging country, candidate must have ability to cope with stressful, delicate, sometimes lonely and possibly unstable situations;
