The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is owned by the Federal republic of Germany with International operations in Uganda, GIZ Implements commissions for the German government and other national and international, public and private sector clients within the framework of the international Cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Government of Uganda.

GIZ is seeking for a competent person to fill the vacant position of an Accountant.

Responsibilities

  • Dealing with all questions arising in this area.
  • Identifying relevant problems and issues and assisting in formulating implementation-oriented solutions,
  • Further developing instruments and assisting in introducing innovation and change.
  • Managing knowledge by disseminating and documenting know-how, experience and information.
  • Making payments both through bank for foreign currencies based on vouchers collected daily.
  • Ensuring that vouchers presented for payment meet the minimum O+R standards.
  • Books all payments made, and amounts received in the cash book daily.
  • Reconcile the bank book with the bank statement on a weekly basis.
  • Update clients on all payments made for all currencies.
  • Monitor bank balances for foreign currency accounts to ensure that there are no short falls at any time. Support in Claiming of VAT.
  • Ensuring that invoices including VAT are claimed from U.R.A monthly. (VAT copies to be made by the respective administrators at the Project).
  • Compiling the VAT return before the set deadline.
  • Submission of the return statement to the Accountant in charge for filing before the set deadline.
  • Submitting physical vouchers to U.R.A if requested in a timely manner.
  • Photocopying vouchers if requested by U.R.A.
  • Stamps all claimed invoices with "claimed stamp" to identify all invoices claimed from U.R.A.
  • Monitoring and documenting vouchers taken out of files for claiming VAT.
  • Returning of vouchers to their respective files after refund. Payment of WHT tax and Filling of returns.
  • Receiving of withholding tax payment vouchers made by the projects.
  • Compiling and process of payment for withholding tax on payments made through the office are made before the set deadlines
  • Submission of the return statement for filing of WHT returns to the Accountant in charge before 10th of every month.
  • Issuing of invoices to third parties
  • Checking office journal receivables to
    establish whether any amounts need to be invoiced to third parties monthly
  • Prepare invoice using the GIZ invoicing tool and obtaining relevant approvals.
  • Forwarding the invoice to the third party and confirming receipt.
  • Follow up with the other party to ensure that payments are made promptly
  • Maintaining up to date files with accurate banks details and the related Correspondences
  • Preparing documentation for any amendments required on bank accounts and forwarding them to the Head of department for further processing,
    Other duties/additional tasks.
  • Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management

    Other knowledge, additional competences
  • Basic knowledge of accounting software
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • Good knowledge of English language
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure tight deadlines
  • Willingness to up-skill as required by the tasks to be performed
  • corresponding measures are agreed with management.

    Required qualifications, competences and experience Qualifications
  • Bachelors of Business Administration, Accounting, Commerce, Economics or related area.
  • Professional experience
  • At least 1 years of experience in this area.
  • Job Education Requirements: Bachelors of Business Administration
  • Job Experience Requirements: 1 years
