  • The STA (Strategic Alliance) “Building an Avocado and Sesame Value Chain in Ethiopia” project is a public-private partnership project that is jointly implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) and the Dutch company Tradin Organic, a pioneer in organic food trade.

  • The objective of the project is to develop the sesame and avocado value chain in Ethiopia following organic standards and quality.

  • Implementation takes place in SNNPR
    (Sidama) and Tigray (Humera) with Tradin’s local sister companies Sunvado and Selet Hulling.

  • STA works on five output levels and seeks to improve collecting and processing methods for avocado and sesame and income of farmers, facilitate organic and social certification, and establish a local infrastructure for oil production.

  • The STA project also works together with TVET colleges.

  • Currently the STA project seeks to hire an expert for quality management to train local quality teams ensure high-standard organic food products.

    The contractor shall receive the payment based on delivered results

  • First (Advance) payment (40%) with the start of the contract

  • Partial payment (20%) when submitting the training material

  • Final payment (40%) upon submission of the final report

  • The accommodation cost is associated with consultant; thus, the house rental cost should be reflected in its offer.

    Level of effort and Location

  • The position will be based at Tradin’s local sister company Sunvado in Hawassa and includes travels e.g. to the Selet Hulling processing facility in Legatafo

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • assess the needs for process adjustments and trainings on specific topics and design a production system based on continuous improvement;

  • Develop training materials/manuals (including for production team and TVET students) and carry out trainings on these topics and

  • design and implement the related processes and work procedures for organic production of Avocado oil in the SNNP Region, Ethiopia.

  • So that sector wide learning is promoted and capacities (of factory staff, TVETs and students) are built to ensure that the employability (of students) is increased and the management of the production system
    can be handed over to local staff.

    The contractor is responsible for providing the following services:

  • Evaluation of the status quo and assessment of training needs of future management team and
    local factory workers (production teams)

  • Develop training material, protocols and guidelines and deliver trainings

  • Design and implement the related processes and work procedures in the operations organization
    for improved factory reliability

  • Elaborate training materials that can be used for on-the-job training and materials for TVET colleges.

  • Deliver selected trainings/ presentations to TVET students organize practical excursions to the factory to expose TVET-students/graduates and lecturers to relevant practical trainings and current topics, at least 50 students and 4 lecturers from 2 TVETs benefit.

  • Supervise the TVET students/lecturers during practical trainings at the factories (Sunvado and Selet).

  • Set up strategic partnerships with other Avocado oil companies to enhance a sector wide learning, strengthen the Avocado value chain in Ethiopia and improve the availability of training materials.

    Qualifications

  • Education/training (2.2.1): operation/supply chain/production management or related on MSc. level

  • Language (2.2.2): Efficiency in English, Amharic is an asset

  • General professional experience (2.2.3): 5 years of experience in consulting and/or project implementation, experience in operational, technical and maintenance management.

  • Specific professional experience (2.2.4): a minimum of 4 years of experience in supply chain management, production management in processing industry.

  • Specific professional experience (2.2.4): 4 years of experience in Continuous improvement
    projects and Maintenance engineering in factories.

  • Leadership/management experience (2.2.5): 3 years of experience as a team leader in projects and/or companies.

  • Regional experience (2.2.6): 2 years of experience in Ethiopia or similar context

  • Other (2.2.8): Structured approach and style on implementing operational processes and tools.

  • Proven computer skills in Excel or other similar systems

  • Flexible remuneration item

  • The bidder shall receive a flexible remuneration.
