For our operations in Kakuma/Kenya, we are looking for an Development worker (m/f/d) to advise on strengthening mechanisms for peaceful conflict transformation

Job description

The Support to Refugees, Especially Voluntary Returnees, and Host Communities in Kenya project operates in and around the Kakuma refugee camp in Turkana County, which is home to some 185,000 refugees, mostly from South Sudan.

The objective of the project is to improve the living conditions of the refugees and of the local population.

The project’s fields of activity include improving income opportunities for refugees and the local population in a gender-equitable way, improving the quality of food, fostering peaceful conflict transformation, strengthening medical care and improving water supply and sanitation.

The third of these fields of activity focuses on strengthening mechanisms for peaceful conflict transformation and for dealing with sexual and gender-based violence.

Your tasks

  • Supporting the county administration in harmonising the peace infrastructure
  • Working with local partners to design and hold training courses with a focus on women, peace and security
  • Contributing to campaigns aimed at preventing sexual and gender-based violence
  • Expanding mediator training to include a focus on gender
  • Supporting the
    involvement of women in mechanisms for conflict resolution
  • Developing the project’s ‘do no harm’ system

    Your profile
  • University-level degree in peace and conflict research, political science, sociology, development studies or a comparable study programme
  • Several years of professional experience in designing training courses with a focus on women, peace and security
  • Experience of providing advice on peaceful conflict transformation
  • Proven experience and expertise of working as an advisor on gender
  • Intercultural skills and a structured way of working in conflict contexts
  • Fluent business German and English (C2)
  • You are a citizen of Germany or another EU Member State.
