Department of Peace Operations Programme Management Assistant Jobs in Kenya;The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), established in 1997, works to eliminate the threat posed by mines, explosive remnants of war, and improvised explosive devices. UNMAS coordinates UN mine action, leads operational responses at the country level, and supports the development of standards, policies, and norms.

This position is located in the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Threat Mitigation Advisory Team (TMAT), Office of Mine Action and Police (OMAP), Department of Peace Operations (DPO), Nairobi. The Programme Assistant reports to the Chief of Section, UNMAS IED TMAT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in programme/project planning and preparation; monitor proposals and documentation.

  • Compile, summarize, and present information/data on programmes/projects.

  • Review project documents, budgets, and cost plans for compliance; support budget monitoring tools.

  • Review budget revisions, verify funds, ensure approvals, and monitor expenditures.

  • Serve as focal point for administrative coordination of programme/project implementation.

  • Liaise with organizational units for travel, workshops, meetings, recruitment, payments, procurement, and asset management.

  • Compile and enter data on project delivery; draft status reports and flag risks.

  • Draft correspondence on budget issues; prepare reports, briefing notes, and spreadsheets.

  • Provide general office assistance; maintain records, organize meetings, and handle administrative tasks.

  • Provide guidance/training to new/junior staff.

  • Collect and analyze data; prepare presentations and reports for planning and decision‑making.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

    Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in programme/project administration, technical cooperation, or related area required.

  • Experience in monitoring expenditures, tracking budgets, and supporting financial reporting required.

  • Experience organizing workshops, meetings, training activities, and logistics required.

  • Experience in the UN or similar international organization desirable.

  • Experience in Umoja or other ERP systems desirable.

  • Experience in procurement support, asset management, and project administration desirable.

  • 1+ year experience in data analytics desirable.

    Languages

  • English required.

  • French desirable.
