Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and theDirector-General of UNON is the representative of the Secretary-General in Kenya.

UNON supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Resident Coordination System (RCS) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, security, conference and information services (www.unon.org). The post is in the Conference Support Section, Division of Conference Services, UNON. Within delegated authority, and reporting to the Chief of Section, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

Responsibilities

  • Translate organizational needs into analytics and reporting requirements to support decisions, strategies and workflows with data and information.

  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns, statistical methods to identify relevant features and variables in structured and unstructured sources of information and data.

  • Oversee and allocate resources to the building of analysis, reporting and quality control capabilities.

  • Conduct full data analytics lifecycle analysis, including data requirements, activities and design, identify data analytics needs, Support data-driven project, oversee solution full implementation.

  • Keep track of trends and developments in data analytics best practices, tools, etc.

  • Leads evaluations through scoping, planning, designing, collecting and analyzing data and report drafting for evaluation of programmes activities and carries out all the tasks involved in the assignments

  • Leads the development of evaluation design and takes the lead in drafting of evaluation terms of reference.

  • Leads data collection efforts across multiple qualitative and quantitative methods; reviews, analyses and interprets data; and develops evaluation findings, conclusions and recommendations.

  • Leads the drafting of draft and final evaluation reports, including the incorporation of client comments, evaluation briefings to management, Ensures quality standards for evaluations.

  • Leads evaluations that are impartial, independent, and credible and that meet professional standards.

  • Develops, implements and evaluates assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and initiates corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; ensures follow-up actions.

  • Performs consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.

  • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources.

  • Coordinates policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies, generates survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identify problems/issues and prepares conclusions.

  • Initiates and coordinates outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.

  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems. Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects. Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

  • Management and Performance: Delegates the appropriate responsibility, accountability and decision-making authority. Makes sure that roles, responsibilities and reporting lines are clear to each staff member. Accurately judges the amount of time and resources needed to accomplish a task and matches task to skills. Monitors progress against milestones and deadlines. Regularly discusses performance and provides feedback and coaching to staff. Encourages risk-taking and supports creativity and initiative.

    Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in computer science, statistics, information management or a related field.

  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. advanced university degree.

  • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

    Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, information management, statistics, stakeholder management or related area is required.

  • A minimum of five years’ work experience with self-service analytics and data visualization applications (MS PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau or similar), or business intelligence tools (SAP Business Objects, etc.) is required.

  • Experience in using data to advance decisions, strategies and execution is required.

  • A minimum of three (3) years' work experience in project management is required.

  • Working experience in programme/project evaluations and in the use of qualitative and quantitative evaluation methodologies is desirable.

  • Working experience in conference management systems business processes is desirable.

    Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of one other official language of the United Nations is desirable.
