Job Description

Main Purpose of Job

  • To manage the Development team within sphere of responsibility in the effective delivery of services to the business

    Key Performance Area

    Strategic Impact

    • Interrogates, clearly understands and communicates to team the agreed strategic objectives of both own Service Area and that of the client Service Line/s

    • Manages the implementation of the strategic imperatives in line with service area strategy relating to:

    • Implementation of change initiatives within designated area/s

    • Management of the implementation of plan on a day-to-day basis with team – runs sprints

    Client Impact: External / Internal

    • Manages quality and timeliness of day-to-day deliverables of team in area of expertise to client

    • Provides client management with sound professional advice and support across broad area of issues arising within area of expertise

    • Proactively identifies client service and technical issues and independently implement resolutions to address these

    Operational Effectiveness

    • Manages day-to-day operations/backlog items and delivery by team to clients

    • Guides and directs daily work of team members giving recognition as well as support as needed

    • Updates Senior Manager on status weekly or as directed

    • Manages day-to-day risk issues within the team and ensures any contraventions are rectified and addressed

    Development/Growth of Team - (Detail as applicable to role)

    • Recruits, mentors and guides team members and shares expertise and knowledge with counselees on an ongoing basis

    • Identifies areas of development for team and institute plans to address these

    • Develops strong working relationships with key talent in team to ensure retention

    Budgets / Profitability

    • Provides input into annual budget to superior for drafting of budget for Service Area

    • Manages expenditure within team and ensures time and expenses are submitted weekly

    Differentiators for this specific role

    • Implements Software Development standards, policies, guidelines and procedures

    • Ensures that all systems are currently supported and maintained with an up to date lifecycle plan

    • Ensures that the Software Roadmap is defined and followed

    • Streamlines processes and implements automation across the area

    • Identifies and puts plans in place to mitigate/manage risks

    • Ensures
    that all tasks for own work and the team is logged on the system to analyse any trends

    • Ensures team is performing well and either meets or exceeds service levels

    • Documentation for all areas of responsibility is kept updated with any changes

    • Proactive monitoring of security under area of responsibility and implementation of necessary controls.

    • Management of client expectations to improve operational excellence and client satisfaction.

    • Problem and incident management in area of responsibility.

    • Ensure IT Continuity in own area of responsibility.

    • Manages new operational business requirements – sprints planned and lead with implemenation
    • Ensure that software backlog are addressed.

    • Code reviews are conducted and adherence to TFS check-in are seen through

    • Preserving the confidentiality, integrity and availability of confidential information

    Technical competencies

    Technical

    • Skilled in field with sound industry and business knowledge

    • Demonstrated leadership skills

    • Experienced in communication and implementation of strategy

    • Proven ability to manage and execute projects

    • Experienced in development and delivery of professional presentations

    • Good report writing skills

    • Good financial knowledge

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Honours Degree OR

    • MCSD: Web applications

    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate

    • MCSE: SharePoint

    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert

    Desired Qualifications

    • Postgraduate qualification (Computer Science / Information Systems)

    • Scrum certifications

    • Management certifications

    • DevOps certifications

    • TOGAF

    • ITIL

    Minimum Experience

    • 7 years’ working experience within Information Technology / Software Support / Development

    Desired Experience

    • 2 years at Senior Consultant / Team Lead within the function
