Who we are?

  • Defenders Protection Initiative (DPI) founded in 2013 is a Non-Governmental Organization that aims to contribute to a world where human rights are respected, we do this by equipping Human Rights Defenders-HRDs (the voice of the voiceless) with contextualized solutions to safety and security challenges or threats they encounter as they do their work. We are based in Ntinda, Kampala.

    Our Mandate

  • With a team of seven (7) staff, DPI prides itself in employing unique and innovative approaches in its contribution to a safer working environment for civil society in Uganda. We believe in a continuous cycle of learning where both DPI and its partners learn from each other through participatory approaches.

    We are the most formidable NGO with 80% market share in matters of safety and security and having served more than two thousand (2,000) Human Rights Defenders, DPI’s programs include;

    • Trainings in physical and digital security

    • Post Incident reviews

    • Premise and pre-event security assessments

    • Emergency rapid response

    • Security advisory services

    • Risk assessments and scenario mappings

    • Digital and physical security clinics

    • Civil Military relations program

    • Anti-money laundering and counter terrorism program for non-profits

    • Advocacy, research and

    • Hosting strategic response committees that cater to contemporary threats faced by Human Rights Defenders.

  • Much as we strive to serve all HRD’s, our major thematic beneficiaries include Women Human Rights Defenders, Journalists, Minorities, Voice and accountability activists and land and natural resources defenders.

    Your contribution (Roles and Responsibilities)

  • The Programme Executive will be reporting to the program coordinator and is responsible for working closely with key stakeholders to plan, organize and implement programmes and activities for the, DPI’s beneficiaries and conduct needs and outcome assessment to measure and enhance programme relevance and effectiveness to bring about quality service and standards.

    The Program Executive will implement the roles below;

    • Monitor and supervise implementation of donor grant activities

    • Compile and publish monthly donor updates

    • Monitor, compile quarterly trend analysis

    • Track approved budgets vs expenses

    • Draft an activity implementation matrix

    • Compose and supervise the procurement committee

    • Schedule weekly staff meetings and follow up on action points

    • Conduct monitoring and evaluation surveys with beneficiaries for projects and the overall services of DPI

    • Schedule monthly brainstorming sessions for cutting edge innovations

    • Represent DPI at assigned partner meetings/conferences

    • Fundraising and proposal writing

    • Periodic progressive reports to management

    What are we looking for?

    Technical Competencies

  • Ability to plan, organize, execute and facilitate programmes and activities

  • Ability to engage stakeholders and partners to bring in programmes to meet the needs of the HRDs

    Core Competencies

  • Keen interest in fairness, justice and human rights

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Creative, resourceful and (self-driven)

  • Able to make presentations and write reports

    Basic Requirements

    • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in programme or project
    administration, technical cooperation or related area is required.

    • Experience in working with a non-Government organizations (NGOs) is desirable.

    • Degree in Social Service / Social Work or related degree and further studies in program/project management.
